What is sure to be one of the most controversial dresses of the evening, Lupita arrived at the Costume Institute Met Gala wearing a custom Prada dress made of a beaded and feathered overdress.
One thing is for sure: Lupita LOVES fashion and certainly looks like she is having a great time. If there is ever a night to take a "fashion risk", the Met Gala is the night to do it.
Lupita is clearly channeling and inspired by Josephine Baker. Maybe she didn't get the memo that this was a night honoring Charles James?!

Undoubtedly, the HOTTEST color of the night was shades of Purple. Whatever you call it; Grape, Plum, Pomegranate or just plain purple, everyone seemed to be wearing the color on last night's 65th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards Red Carpet.
The main reason for this trend is really quite simple. Stylist were mainly pulling gowns from designer's Fall 2013 Collections. While several actresses were able to get dresses "hot off the runway" from last week's Spring 2014 Runway Shows, most (especially if you are a planner and pick your dress weeks in advance) wore dresses from the Fall 2013 Collections which were presented last February. In addition to shades of purple, Wine, Burgundy and Raspberry were colors that were added to the spectrum.

The Look: Miuccia Prada, Creative Director for Prada showed a very colorful collection. First off, the runway walls reflected murals by artists from Jeanne Detallante’s “Beauty Masks” to Gabriel Specter’s “Colourful Women.” The collection showed LA Graffiti-like Art Style...on $3,000 dresses. Artsy Multimillionaire Trust-funder who owns an Art Gallery and wants to look "funky".
Trends: Leg warmers (yep! You read right), Color, Athleticism, Jeweled crystallized "Teva"-like sandals, bra detailing, mural-like, bright colors, Art as Fashion....and FUR coats.....for SPRING!!

Here's what THE one-and-only Suzy Menkes said of the Prada Spring 2014 collection:
"Interesting the dresses were: colorful and extraordinary, illuminated not just by the bold faces printed digitally over the lower body of a wool or fur coat, but also smothered in sequins, especially rhinestone brassieres built in at the bosoms."
"With the vivid green, red, yellow and blue colors; the knee-high, sporty leg warmers; and sometimes colored feathers in the hair, the effect was tribal. But there was also an unexpected feeling of the 1980s and those Vivienne Westwood external bras inspired by African women."

Prada vs. Dolce & Gabbana--Milan Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2013/2014
Last month, Milan Fashion Week for Fall/Winter 2013/2014 happened. I posted the Gucci Fall/Winter 2013/2014 show HERE back at the end of February and so here are some more Milan Highlights:
Let's begin with two contrasting collections--Prada and Dolce & Gabbana. One was "Undone Bag Lady Chic" and the other, Catholic Diva Goes Baroque! Care to take a guess who did what??
Prada Fall/Winter 2013/2014:
The Look: Feminine Bag Lady Chic has been Miuccia Prada's heroine for ages and nothing changed here. She described the look for Fall 2013 as beening "Done and Undone". It was. The clothes--as styled had a look of :"just thrown on" as she had barely spent time even fussing with her hair or makeup before walking out of her Milan pied-de-terre. In terms of silhouettes, one that stood out involved skirts with a side panel that dipped asymmetrically at the hem. Lots of luxe tweeds, furs and embellishment of sequins and crystals were present as well.

Dolce & Gabbana Fall/Winter 2013/2014:
The Look: Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana are obsessed with Icon Worship, the Catholic Church, Baroque-isms and all out embellishments. They used the golden mosaics of Sicily's Cathedral of Monreale as their starting point for this Fall 2013 collection. Every look seemed like "Fashion Priestesses" transporting themselves from a Church wall's mosaics and onto the runway. Shining golds, deep blood reds, lots of sequins, and jeweled details throughout. Lace and heavy embroideries as well. Now, this Fashion Church is one I'd like to worship!

Anne Hathaway in Custom Prada: Yawn. Oh, sorry I spoke with my "Nick Loud Voice". This light pink Duchesse satin gown was a bore to me. Honestly., I expected more. I expected Fierce and Fabulous Valentino, or something! To me, this was a #Fail. It had no real interest as a gown and the darts at the bust fit oddly. This looked like something a second-year Fashion School student can make. Just sayin'...
Her hair, though, was good.
What did you guys think? Let me know and leave your comments here of course :)
