American Music Awards : Naya Rivera in Michael Kors

Monday, July 21, 2014

Naya Rivera in Michael Kors: "Glee" star Naya Rivera wore this black jersey slithering gown with a (very open!) keyhole front, mock-neck, long sleeves and train for days! What do I think? It's very "Sex-a-licious Elvira".

I think that this gown focuses too much on her "Sistahs" and I can't even think about anything else (and not in a good way). And, I love me a good train, but this one seemed unnecessary. On a positive note: her hair and makeup were perfect!

So...Is this Too Sexy or Not Sexy Enough? What do you guys think?

14th Annual Latin Grammy Awards Red Carpet Part One: The Muy Bien!

Friday, July 18, 2014

Sequin Bella: Roselyn Sanchez at the 14th Annual Latin Grammy Awards Press Room--Mandalay
Bay Events Center Las Vegas, Nevada

Last night was the 14th Annual Latin Grammy Awards, held at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas Nevada. As usual there was A LOT of color and A LOT of sparkle when it came to the "red carpet"--I put it in quotes because it was actually yes, NOT red. So, let's start my "Who Wore What? Latin Grammys 2013" on a positive note with the "Muy Bien!" group. And don't you worry kids, I'll have an "Ayyy Mija!" blog posting afterwards!

Becky G--Mexican American hip hop singer, rapper, songwriter and dancer from Inglewood California Becky G is only 4' 11" but I have to say, in this bubblegum pink column gown, she looks like a 5' 11" model: she looks Muy Bien! The gown is simply, clean and well fitting--featuring a high boat neck, side front slit (not to high, thank you very much!), clean center parted hair and minimal accessories. Well done.

Carmen Electra--Carmen Electra looked quite fab in this black gown with front keyhole and sequined sleeves. She's very covered up...for her, and I like that. Not sure the black nail color was necessary but I do appreciate the clean makeup and pulled back ponytail hairstyle.

Genesis Rodriguez--Miami Florida-born actress Genesis Rodriguez (she played "Marisol" in Identity Thief) looked modern, sleek and quite chic in this off-white high-necked gown with side cut-out's and side slit. Her hair looked amazing, loved her makeup and the strappy heels were just right! Muy Bien indeed!

Ana Patricia--When I first looked at this photo, I actually thought it was former "Miss Universe 2006" Zuleyka Rivera from Puerto Rico. But, in fact, it was another former beauty queen: "Miss Nuestra Belleza 2010" and entertainment reporter for "Despierta America" Ana Patricia. She looked great in this off-white sequined gown with a v-neck front, slicked back hair, earrings and delicate bangle. I also loved the pop of color with her blue clutch. Good styling!

Leslie Grace--American singer-songwriter Leslie Grace dazzled in this champagne sequin-and-tulle high-neck gown with open back and draped cowl back detail. Everything about it was pretty; her hair, her pearl-drop earrings, simple makeup and yes, the gown. This is a perfect way to do a sequined gown but not look too "Prom-&-Pageant".

Lourdes Stephen--Presenter and moderator of Univision's "Sal y Pimienta" (Salt and Pepper) TV show, Lourdes Stephen also did the sequined gown route. Hers was a creamy yellow color and had gold metallic oversized paillettes sprinkled from heavy to light throughout the tulle-based dress. The silhouette, drop shoulder and gold metallic belt were very good style touches. If I had any complaint, it would be the "1998 Beauty Pageant Hair"; with such a gown, her hair should have looked more modern--down, side or center-parted and more clean and simple.

Miss Universe 2013 Gabriel Isler--Newly crowned "Miss Universe 2013" Maria Gabriela Isler from Venezuela looked fabulosa in this blush-colored sequined gown that she wore onstage while presenting an award at the 2013 Latin Grammy Awards. Unfortunately, what she wore on the "red carpet"/press room was not that "Muy Bien!" (wait for the next post to see that). But for now, this look is one of the better ones of last night's awards show.

Roselyn Sanchez--This look above on actress Roselyn Sanchez was one of my favorite looks--if not my favorite--of last night's 2013 Latin Grammy Awards Red Carpet. Her strapless silver/gold/gunmetal sequin gown was designed by Rani Zachem Couture. Rani is a Beirut Lebanon-born, Nairobi Kenya-raised fashion designer who got much of his experience interning with Yigal Azrouël, Carlos Miele and Zuhair Murad. I love this gown on Rosalyn because it is just right for her; there is enough razzle-dazzle for this type of an event, the fit is good and the sequin work isn't obvious and in fact, a bit Art Deco and geometric.

WHO WORE WHAT?.....67th Annual Cannes Film Festival "The Homesman" Premiere, The Gown Red Carpet RECAP

Freida Pinto in Oscar de la Renta Fall 2014 ball gown--"The Homesman" Premiere, 67th Annual Cannes Film Festival

The 67th Cannes Film Festival is happening in the South of France and it's been a COUTURE fashion frenzy--in terms of the Red Carpet---Here are the FASHION HIGHLIGHTS from tonight's "The Homesman" Premiere. The film is a Western starring Tommy Lee Jones, Hilary Swank, Meryl Streep and Hailee Steinfeld, among others. One of the attendees at tonight's premiere Indian actress--and stunning beauty--Freida Pinto:

Freida Pinto in Oscar de la Renta Fall 2014: Freida was very on "Red Carpet Trend" wearing a strapless Ball Gown. She decided on a red hi-lo ball gown with gold detail from Oscar de la Renta's Fall 2014 collection.

Work That Gown: The gown made a stunning impact on the red carpet and especially on Freida's olive-toned skin and dark hair; it was perfection from head-to-toe.

Another Ball Gown Girl was Indian Bollywood Actress Sonam Kapoor...

Sonam Kappor in Elie Saab Haute Couture Spring 2014: Indian Bollywood actress and model Sonam Kapoor wore a STUNNING black silk organza ball gown with black sequin applique from Elie Saab's Spring/Summer 2014 Haute Couture collection. I LOVED this gown from the minute I saw the collection--in photos and video. And wondered when and who, would ever wear this fantastic $100,00+ costing Haute Couture creation. Well, wonder no more...

Flawless: Sonam looked every bit a COUTURE Star in this gown tonight at Cannes; a definite TEN!

Hilary Swank in Atelier Versace: "The Homesman" actress Hilary Swank, loves a good shirred, draped and body-clinging gown...and she didn't disappoint tonight. Swank wore a white silk crepe-back satin one shoulder gown with gathered criss-cross midriff and...

Draped back cowl detail. It is a perfect dress to showcase Hilary's very athletic and muscled shoulders and back...

NIKOLAKI Cowl Back: It also reminds me of a couple of gowns in my NIKOLAKI collection from several seasons ago which was worn by...

Haylie Duff in NIKOLAKI vanilla-colored silk jersey one shoulder gown with draped cowl back and leather midriff

 Also...

This red silk crepe-back satin bias-cut gown with back cowl-draped detail from my NIKOLAKI Spring 2009 Collection

Continuing with the Cannes Couture Gals...

Adriana Lima in Alexandre Vauthier Fall 2013: Brazilian Supermodel Adriana Lima walked "The Homesman" Premiere at 2014 Cannes in this strapless blush pink with black waistband gown from French fashion designer Alexandre Vauthier's Fall 2013 Haute Couture collection.

Adriana Lima in Alexandre Vauthier Fall 2013 Haute Couture: Adriana looked super-sexy in this dress. But then again, Adriana could look super-sexy in a garbage bag. If there was any critique, it's that red lipstick; it aged her.

Svetlana Khodchenkova in Christian Dior RTW Fall 2014: Russian film and TV actress Svetlana Khochenkova wore an emerald green crew-neck sleeveless gown from Christian Dior RTW Fall 2014 collection. The gown was simple, classic and very well made. It also featured a semi-"Watteau" back. I thought that this was PERFECTION. Simple and GORGEOUS.

Printed Beauties: Actors Mireille Enos and Rosario Dawson, "The Captive" photo-call, 67th Annual Cannes Film Festival

Today, there was a "Photo-call" for the thriller film "The Captive" at the 67th Annual Cannes Film Festival. "The Captive" actors Mireille Enos and Rosario Dawson were there, dressed and ready: both actresses gave you printed dresses...

Rosario Dawson in Sportmax: Rosario opted for a Jackson Pollack-inspired printed sleeveless below-the-knee dress with asymmetrical peplum detail from Italian brand Sportmax's Fall 2014 collection. Sportmax is part of the MaxMara Italian Fashion empire. Here it is on the runway:

Sportmax Fall 2014: Jackson Pollock's extravagantly messy paintings as inspiration

Mireille Enos in Dolce & Gabbana: U.S. actress Mireille Enos wore an almond-colored blossom-print silk organza cap sleeve "tent dress" from Dolce & Gabbana. Enos is pregnant, by the way with the baby due this summer.

WHO WORE WHAT?.....67th Annual Cannes Film Festival, Day Two "Mr Turner" Premiere Red Carpet Hits and One Mess

Blake Lively in Chanel Haute Couture Spring 2014--Day Tow of the 67th Cannes Film Festival--"Mr Turner" Premiere

Tonight was "Day Two" of the 67th Annual Cannes Film Festival and the Premiere of the much-acclaimed (as opposed to last night's "Grace of Monaco" premiere) film "Mr. Turner"--the British bio pic based on the eccentric British painter J. M. W. Turner. The film is selected to compete for the Palm d'Or, the Top Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, and some critics say it might just get it. But let's just get to the more important stuff: the "Who Wore What?" red carpet...

Blake Lively in Chanel Haute Couture Spring 2014: Lively wore a silk organza dress with hand-applied sequins and applique from Chanel Haute Couture. The dress--and silk chiffon shawl--were shown on the runway with those now-infamous Chanel Couture $400 sneakers. Thank goodness Blake chose to wear the look with heels; if you're going to wear a borrowed $100,000 Chanel Couture dress, wear them with heels darling...

Julianne Moore in custom Louis Vuitton: Actress Julianne Moore dazzled in this custom-made Louis Vuitton leather and ziberline with metallic accent gown. It was a modern and very chic look.  Her hair and makeup were sublime.

Liya Kebede in Roberto Cavalli: Model Liya Kebede added a major "Sexy" factor at the 67th Annual Cannes Film Festival red carpet in this Roberto Cavalli black and violet sequined mini-dress.

Zoe Saldana in Jason Wu Fall 2014: Actress Zoe Saldana walked the "Mr Turner" Premiere in this bias-cut gown with jade-green accents from U.S. designer Jason Wu. The gown has a very 1920s/1930s vibe but to be honest, it does not have enough of a red carpet impact to make a strong impression at the Cannes Film Festival.

And then, there's Miss Lenina...

Elena Lenina: Oooooh GURL!!! Of course Russian Reality TV "star" Elena Lenina had to attend this premiere; what else is she going to do? And naturally, she had her hair done in a "kooky" bun and accessorized her fuchsia column gown with big ol' silver Xmas ornaments. Naturally. Well, at least her silver clutch matches her silver over-sized "necklace". Oh, and in case you forgot, this is what she wore the night before:

Yep: Queen Mess. Love you Elena Lenina.
