Who Wore What?.....65th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards: Trend Alert! Purple Haze

Monday, September 23, 2013

Alyson Hannigan in Marchesa and Carrie Underwood in Romona Keveza

Undoubtedly, the HOTTEST color of the night was shades of Purple. Whatever you call it; Grape, Plum, Pomegranate or just plain purple, everyone seemed to be wearing the color on last night's 65th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards Red Carpet.

The main reason for this trend is really quite simple. Stylist were mainly pulling gowns from designer's Fall 2013 Collections. While several actresses were able to get dresses "hot off the runway" from last week's Spring 2014 Runway Shows, most (especially if you are a planner and pick your dress weeks in advance) wore dresses from the Fall 2013 Collections which were presented last February. In addition to shades of purple, Wine, Burgundy and Raspberry were colors that were added to the spectrum.

Who Wore What?.....65th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards: Alyson Hannigan in Marchesa

Alyson Hannigan in custom Marchesa

Alyson Hannigan was a sleeper hit for me at last night's Primetime Emmy Awards. While the dress is nothing revolutionary, the color (TREND ALERT!), fit and beautifully draped bodice were perfection. She was wise to have the dress custom made in a beautiful solid color as opposed to the very "fashion-forward" print that was shown by Marchesa for Resort 2014.

Good Job Alyson!

Who Wore What?.....65th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards: Julianne Hough in Jenny Packham

Julianne Hough wore this Jenny Packham Spring 2014 Celedon Green Beaded and Transparent Tulle Gown to last night's 65th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards.

I'll have to say that it was not my favorite gown of the night. While Julianne is gorgeous and has an amazing dancers body, the transparency was a bit much for such a high level awards show. While it gives the dress a bit of an "edge", it would have worked better at a different event.

What do you think of Transparent dresses on the Red Carpet?

Who Wore What?.....65th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards: Elizabeth Moss in Andrew Gn Resort 2014

Elizabeth Moss in Andrew Gn Resort 2014

Elizabeth Moss in Andrew Gn Resort 2014: Black and white was a big trend on the 2013 Emmy Awards red carpet--as well as the recently-shown New York Fashion Week Spring 2014 collections. So, it comes as no surprise that we would see examples of it at the 65th Annual Emmy Awards. Actress Elizabeth Moss from "Mad Men" wore a strapless gown from Andrew Gn (pronounced "Jen" in case you were wondering--rhymes with pen). The Singapore-born, Paris-based designer develops his embroideries
in-house and creates his own buttons and embellishments, which is good
news for the “bourgeois princesses” who look to him for one-of-a-kind
event-dressing. Artisanal details in the form of bows, mink trim, and
beading keep the royals and socials coming back for more. I think this was a pretty--and safe--gown for Moss. The black portion/bustier seemed a little too short. But other than that, it was a pretty gown and up close the beading was stunning.

Who Wore What?.....65th Annual Emmy Awards: Zosia Mamet in Honor Resort 2014

Zosia Mamet in Honor Resort 2014

Zosia Mamet in Honor Resort 2014: Honor is a clothing line designed by Giovanna Randall (since 2010). Giovanna was an opera singer then premedical student who then went to study fashion--at FIT. The company is based in NYC and obviously has some strong PR backing (and money). This gown that actress Zosia Mamet wore is a watercolor printed gown with black breast detail and sheer neckline. It is a lovely gown--and meets all the requirements of making all those NYC Fashion Folk swoon--but...I think it's too-much of a gown for Zosia and the focus on her "sistah's" is a little off-putting., to say the least. This would have been a great gown for, say, the CFDA's or a "Met Ball", but the 2013 Emmys? Not sure. What do you guys think?

Who Wore What?.....65th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards: Kiernan Shipka in Delpozo Spring 2014

Kiernan Shipka in in Delpozo Spring 2014

Kiernan Shipka in Delpozo 2014: 13 year-old Kiernan Shipka from "Mad Men" wore a dress form Delpozo. It was from their Spring 2014 collection. In case you are wondering who and what Delpozo is...according to Style.com:

Madrid-based label Delpozo made an impressive New York fashion week
debut with an intimate show staged at a sun-drenched penthouse space in
Chelsea. After founder Jesus del Pozo passed away in 2011, the
established Spanish fashion house (also known for its line of perfumes)
tapped Josep Font as its new creative director. In just two seasons,
Font has completely revamped the Delpozo name. His “prêt-à-couture”
designs were getting attention from influential editors and retailers
(all eyes were on Lauren Santo Domingo when she entered the room in an
ivory topcoat from Font’s debut Spring ’13 collection, which was picked
up by Moda Operandi), so the company decided to step up its
international presence by showing during NYFW.

So, there you go.  Impressive designer and obviously, lots of backing (read: money).

At first, when I saw Kiernan and this dress, I was like "Ummm, OK, not so sure..." but then I thought, "wait, imagine Miley "twerking " Cyrus and what she would have worn? I also thought that at least she didn't go with the "I was just a Bridesmaid at a wedding" look. And it's nice to see a young girl not look well...like MILEY CYRUS! I LIKE this look. It's innovative, interesting and fresh. Oh and yes, it's FASHIONABLE!

Who Wore What?.....65th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards: Anna Faris in Monique Lhuillier Resort 2013

Anna Faris in Monique Lhuillier Resort 2013

Anna Faris in Monique Lhuillier Resort 2013: Actress Anna Faris wore a canary yellow gown from LA-based--and FIDM Graduate--designer Monique Lhuillier. The gown featured a perfectly ruched bust/upper torso section and floaty silk chiffon skirt section. I LOVE the color, silhouette and style of this gown...

I am just not sure if such a bright color was right for her--and especially with her very blond hair. This gown might have worked better with a Latina or a more olive skin-toned actress, or just a dark-haired actress, perhaps? What do you think?

Who Wore What?.....65th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards: Kerry Washington in Marchesa Spring 2014

Kerry Washington in Marchesa Spring 2014

Kerri Washington in Marchesa Spring 2014: Best Actress Nominee Kerry Washington wore this blush/nude colored, very ethereal gown, from Marchesa Spring 2014. The gown was just shown during New York Fashion Week. Speaking of that...when I was looking at the gowns that were shown in the NY Fashion Week collections, there was so much of this nude/sheer/blush happening that I wondered if the Emmy-nominated gals would be featuring some of these looks. Well, my wondering was answered. It is a beautiful gown and made for a princess. I'm sure up close, the details, sequins, applique is absolutely DIVINE. I just don't know if this is Kerry Washington's dress, if you know what I mean...

In the front neckline/bust area, it just looks as if a garden is coming to life. Not sure if that is a good or a bad thing--What do you guys think?

Who Wore What?.....65th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards: Julie Bowen in Zac Posen Resort 2014

Julie Bowen in Zac Posen Resort 2014

Julie Bowen in Zac Posen Resort 2014: I was wondering when--and on who--I would see some over-the-top ruffled Zac Posen gown . And I got my wish with "Modern Family" actress Julie Bowen. The light peach (or is it "blush"?)-colored Mermaid/Flamenco-shaped gown. The gown IS A LOT of look. But I think Bowen pulled it off. I think it was a wise decision of hers--and/or her stylist--to keep everything else simple including her jewelry, hair and gold clutch.

Who Wore What?.....65th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards: Zooey Deschanel in J. Mendel Resort 2014

Zooey Deschanel in J. Mendel Resort 2014

"New Girl" actress Zooey Deschanel wore a silver blue fitted column gown from J. Mendel Resort 2014 collection by Gilles Mendel. The gown featured a high neck with tiny center front keyhole, side slit and interesting front-to-side bow detail...

I love how the color of her dress matched her eyes--her hair looks good too! What do you guys think of Zooey's entire look?

Who Wore What?.....65th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards: Jessica Pare in Oscar De La Renta Spring 2014

Jessica Pare in Oscar De La Renta Spring 2014

"Mad Men" actress Jessica Pare wore an Oscar de la Renta Spring 2014 Azure Blue-colored strapless gown. This gown--which features a hi-lo hemline and folded-and-pleated bustier top section--was JUST shown on the runway less than two weeks ago at New York Fashion Week. As many fashion insiders know, disgraced designer John Galliano has been "working" at the de la Renta studios, assisting in the collections and one can definitely see a "Galliano" touch to this design.

Who Wore What?.....65th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards: Carrie Underwood in Romona Keveza Fall 2013

Carrie Underwood in Romona Keveza Fall 2013

Carrie Underwood stepped onto the 2013 Emmy Awards red carpet in a grape colored strapless ball gown from Romona Keveza Fall 2013. On the runway, the gown was much fuller (more of a crinoline/petticoat underneath). I think it was a wise choice of Carrie and her stylist to forgo the UBER BIG under-petticoat and let the gown "go free". A black satin waist sash was also added to break up the gown and give the waist more definition.
