Annual Academy Awards: Jennifer Lawrence in Custom Christian Dior

Jennifer Lawrence in Custom Christian Dior

It is no surprise that Academy Award-nominate actress Jennifer Lawrence was going to wear Dior since she is the spokesperson of this grand French fashion house. The gown she wore was a Custom Christian Dior designed by Raf Simons strapless column dress with a slightly-flared silhouette from the knees down. It also features the very Dior-esque side peplum--an homage to "Le Bar" shape.

Her short hairstyle was "lifted up", making the look very elegant and chic I also liked the necklace and how she wears it "backwards" , having the longer part trail down her back.

Ooopsie: Oh and yes, there is the trip! In typical fashion, it wouldn't be a normal award show for Jennifer Lawrence unless she trips and (almost) falls. And she did just that as she first stepped on to the Oscars red carpet. Thank E! for capturing that moment. This might be a good omen for Lawrence. We shall soon find out.

WHO WORE WHAT?.....71st Annual Golden Globe Awards: Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Couture Fall 2013

Sunday, January 12, 2014

Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Couture Fall 2013: No surprise here, that Jennifer Lawrence wore Dior. She is the Couture House's spokesperson, of course. Tonight at the 2014 Golden Globe Awards, she wore a strapless ivory silk organza gown that is pleated throughout then "cinched" at the waist and below the hips with belts. The hand-made gown is designed by Raf Simons and is from the Dior Haute Couture Fall 2013 collection, which means that if this were to retail, it would set you back approximately $50-$75,000. Take that darlings.

Canadian model of Eritrean descent, Grace Mahary--Christian Dior Haute Couture Fall 2013

Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week Fall 2013 is upon us and the first shows have occurred. First up: Christian Dior Haute Couture Fall 2013. The collection--designed by Belgian Creative Director and replacement to John Galliano-- Raf Simons. His collection was based on flags--international flags, as well as influences from America, Africa and Asia. As Style.com said "A revamped Bar jacket was followed by a sporty navy blouson; a strapless dress in tiers of spacey shibori (the Japanese process that produces that peculiar spiky fabric) preceded another strapless number vibrantly banded in shiny tribal colors. Dior himself was something of an internationalist (each collection, Simons reproduces two dresses by the old master as an homage), so it would have made sense to him". The collection was a mix of stiff, folded, pleated--and draped and fluid. It was definitely modern and continuing the Raf Simons-Revamp of the Dior Couture House...

Runway Divas: Christian Dior Haute Couture Fall 2013

Of note, this was THE FIRST time designer Raf Simons used models of color while being at Dior. Black models. He hasn't yet. And he had been criticized because of it (Good!). It seems he (or the Dior team) listened. And there were six black models on the Dior Haute Couture Fall 2013 runway including Alek Wek, Grace Mahary, Joan Smalls, Maria Borges, Kelly Moreira, and Yasmin Warsame.  Now, getting back to the FASHION...

Here are some of my "Nick Top Picks" from the collection:

NICK APPEARANCES.....TV Guide Network 2013 Academy Awards Live Red Carpet Show: Recap!

Oscar Night!!

On Air! (left to right) Nick Verreos, Tabatha Coffey, and Marc Istook

Here we are on the day of the Oscars right as we were about to go LIVE to do our TV Guide Network "2013 Academy Awards Red Carpet Show Hosted by Chris Harrison" Show.  I wore a Dolce & Gabbana black with tiny white polka-dotted silk satin tuxedo jacket I bought (Yes, BOUGHT Can you believe it!?), with my Zegna tuxedo shirt and Marc Jacobs Collection tuxedo pants. My NIKOLAKI design--and life--partner, David Paul styled me as he always does. Thank You David! For our filming position, we had a great location on the "balcony" position--or "Sky View" looking above the red carpet. We were right next to Kelly Osbourne and Ross Matthews of E! and various other Entertainment Shows--each of us had our own "box" on the balcony.

On The Red Carpet: (left to right) Marc Istook, Nick Verreos, Tabatha Coffey and Chris Harrison--Before we began our live coverage, we made sure to hit the red carpet for some photo-op's. Mainly, I wanted to make sure my "gal pal", Tabatha Coffey got a chance to have the photographers take red carpet pics of her in her Mark Zunino gown. I know if I was the designer of her gown, I would have wanted some red carpet photos of her in my gown...at the Oscars! So, we made sure to get those....and then we RAN up to our balcony to get mic'ed and ready for our LIVE "close-up"!

Tabatha Coffey--Tabatha wore a strapless black mermaid shaped gown featuring gathered tulle and lots and lots of feathers, from Mark Zunino. Oh and yes, she had many, many diamonds as well.

Greek Brothers: Nick Verreos and Christos Garkinos co-owner of Decades and star of the new Bravo show "Dukes of Melrose".

Here are some shots of the Academy Awards Red Carpet from my balcony position, right as we began our "Countdown" Coverage around 2pm and then progressively as the carpet began to fill up with guests, attendees and yes, all the A-List Hollywood Glitterati:

2013 Academy Awards Red Carpet--Right in the beginning...

Filling up...

Packed!

Here are some shots of the Stars on the 2013 Academy Awards Red Carpet from my "Sky View" TV Guide Network balcony position:

Kelly and Jamie: Jamie Foxx with his daughter, being interviewed for the ABC Pre-Show by Kelly Rowland, in her Donna Karan Atelier black and white strapless gown (yes, the one I was going to tweet about the day before when I saw her during Rehearsals, but wisely decided not to).

Amy Adams--in her Oscar de la Renta gray-blue ball gown (with her publicist holding her purse nearby)

Anne Hathaway--in her now-infamous dusty pink Prada gown (from the back)..

Amanda Seyfried in Alexander McQueen (left)  and the Valentino gown Anne Hathaway was supposed to wear (right).

As we all now know she was supposed to wear Valentino (Valentino's PR people even Tweeted that she was wearing their gown! Ooopsie!) but decided to change her mind right before when someone told her that her "Les Miserables" co-star Amanda Seyfried's Alexander McQueen gown might look "too similar" to hers. I think she should have stuck to her original Valentino.

Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones

Halle Berry with Robin Roberts of ABC's "Good Morning America"--Halle, who was MY FAVORITE Best Dressed Woman of the night in that Custom Atelier Versace sequined "Dynasty" gown had just gotten there and she immediately went to Robin, they hugged, exchanged niceties, and did a brief interview. I was so excited looking down from my spot seeing this all happen.

Soon-to-be Academy Award Winner for Best Actress, Jennifer Lawrence--in her Christian Dior Haute Couture Spring 2013 strapless ball gown. This gown, on the red carpet, was MAJAH! But...she didn't vibe "Diva", more like a European Princess. It was BEAUTIFUL and perfect to win an Oscar in.

Crutch Girl: Kristen Stewart in her crutches. I guess she had just cut her foot (?) and she stumbled through the entire length of the red carpet and had someone take her crutches when she had to stop and pose for photos. She looked a MESS. Her hair was a mess, her makeup looked a mess and she didn't do that gown any justice. Even from my balcony position, she looked so "bothered" to be there. I'm sure she was in pain and felt awkward with the crutches but then, HUNEY, it's the OSCARS!! Buck it up!

Wolgang Puck and the Oscars Cake and menu being displayed on the red carpet--he spent what seemed like an HOUR walking through the entire red carpet showing the food and doing interviews. I hope no one ate that food afterward because it must have begun to decompose for sure!

What an Oscars Blast! (left to right) Nick Verreos, Tabatha Coffey and Marc Istook--TV Guide Network "2013 Academy Awards Live Red Carpet Show Hosted by Chris Harrison". I had so much fun with my "Balcony Buddies". Thanks for making it a GREAT night for me!

Until Next Year!!! Happy Awards Season!!!

WHO WORE WHAT?.....2013 Vanity Fair Oscar Party

Monday, February 25, 2013

Oscar Party Couture:

Jennifer Lawrence in Calvin Klein: Loved the sequined column she changed into for the Vanity Fair Oscar Party. It makes sense that she would go for a completely different silhouette if she wanted to do an outfit change. The gown fits her well and is right on-trend when it comes to being an all-over sequin gown.

Fan Bingbing in Oscar de la Renta Spring 2013: Fan Bingbing wore a fuchsia Marchesa gown to the Academy Awards and for the Vanity Fair Party (above) this Oscar de la Renta mitered striped silk satin strapless ball gown with  a high waist/full gathered skirt silhouette. She is such the fashion-plate and well, looks like a DOLL in this. Only Fan Bingbing can pull off this kind of gown with all those stripes.

Ginnifer Goodwin in Monique Lhuillier: I like the neon coloring of the oversized jeweled sequins on this cocktail dress--especially against the black backdrop. It is such a "bling-bling" of a dress but I do love the juxtaposition of the athletic-like racer-back front neckline shape.

Zooey Deschanel in Valentino Resort 2013: What can I say? It's SOOO Zooey Deschanel. Perfect for her. It's very 1960's Valentino Alta Moda in its styling and sensibility--the nude tulle with colored flower applique gives her a delicate lady-like look that works for her--as well as a "mature" Roman Heiress vacationing on the Italian Riviera.

Natalie Portman in Dior: Classic. Chic. Greco-Roman Goddess. Great decision to bring some color in the stunning earrings.

Hillary Swank in Valentino Haute Couture Spring 2013: This gown was very similar to what  Best Supporting Actress Nominee Sally Field wore at the Oscars. The vibrant "Valentino Red" color is great and the sheer/lace fabrication softens Hillary. It's still hard for me to believe that these Design Houses loan out $50,000 dresses just to attend a party!!

Marisa Tomei: You can't go wrong with a delicately beaded jumpsuit. This is elegant, sporty and very LUXE. Good job Marisa!

Olivia Munn in Atelier Versace Fall 2012: And again...a question? How does Olivia Munn get COUTURE???!!! I just thought that was for the Nicole Kidman's and Jennifer Lawrence's.  On another note: Good for her! The Red Carpet "game" and Who Wears What...has really changed kids. This hand-beaded $75,000+ costing Atelier Versace fits her perfectly and softens her dark features.

And now some "questionable choices":

Emmy Rossum in Catherine Deane: I am sure that many people out there might think this may be a little "Kooky", but...I kind of like this. She looks like a former Russian Ballerina who defected years ago from the Bolshoi...attending a Ball in Paris...in 1925. I have to say: I really like it!

Arianna Huffington in Valentino Resort Spring 2013 Custom: Oh My Greek "sister". I get that black is slimming and the fact that the House of Valentino added lace elbow-length sleeves (very age-appropriate) to the original gown. But...I just wish she would have chosen to wear a column-shape gown as opposed to the gathered shape.

Zoe Saldana in Givenchy Resort: I just think this looks like a nightgown. Nothing else to say. On a good note (I think), the color matches her hair perfectly!

Miranda Kerr in Valentino Haute Couture Fall 2012: Speaking of a nightgown...On the runway: Fabulous! It's a beautiful gown. And COUTURE, need I add. On Miranda: awkward. I think the lining should have been a different color then NUDE. Maybe lilac.

Faye Dunaway in Tom Ford: Miss Faye Dunaway. We LOVE her. Worship her. A Diva. But...What are those gloves??? They look like the kind one washes dishes with. Someone ill-advised her for sure. The dress  is a cocktail--and black-colored--version of what the beautiful...

Gwyneth Paltrow wore at last year's 2012 Oscars...It's a great dress for Faye Dunaway but, she should have worn stacked HEELS with it (or at least a kitten heel), and have been careful of not having her bra show. Just sayin'
