WHO WORE WHAT?.....2013 Vanity Fair Oscar Party--Part 2

Monday, February 25, 2013

More Couture Party Girls:

Anne Hathaway in Custom Saint Laurent: Congratulations to Anne Hathaway for winning the Best Supporting Actress Oscar. I admit, I was not a fan of her dusty rose Prada gown and I don't think this slate-gray blue gown from Saint Laurent is much better. It is very chic for sure and on Catherine Deneuve: I can totally see. But I expect more from Anne. I'd even give it a "good pass" on Natalie Portman--if she was pregnant. Those are my more-than-two cents.

Diane Kruger in Giambattista Valli Haute Couture Spring 2013: I LOVED this little cocktail dress the minute I saw the photos from the Giambattista Valli Couture Spring 2013 runways. It's ALL about that Watteau back. Bring it Miss Kruger. Bring it!

Elizabeth Banks in Alexander McQueen: Beautiful. Love the color, the print of this silk chiffon gown, the fullness of the skirt vs. the teeny-tiny-ness of the strapless bustier. The accentuated fitted waist is also great. Well played Elizabeth.

Amy Adams in Oscar de la Renta: What a polar opposite dress from that full beautiful ball gown she wore from Oscar de la Renta. Again, this is from the same designer and it works. The silver head-to-toe sequins are a big trend and the fringe is very in. Her hair looks better here than it did at the Oscars red carpet.

Lily Collins in Zuhair Murad: Gorgeous. The color is spectacular and Lily is vibing FABULOUSNESS.

Solange Knowles in Emilio Pucci: Solange. You are a Gay Man's Best Friend. At around 2AM. Neon Yellow, a modified 'fro. GURL. You have got some chutzpah and I give you points for that!

Naomi Watts in Emilio Pucci: Can I say something? I am not so sure about this one. I LOVED what she wore at the Oscars red carpet but this one-shoulder midnight blue-and-gold sequin number is a little too Retro Studio 54 for me. I admire all the sequins but maybe the gold section could have been a bit smaller.

Karolina Kurkova in Atelier Versace Spring 2013: It's Karolina Kurkova. End of subject. Flawless. This column gown is futuristic, modern and very sleek. And on Karolina: Sexy HOT!

WHO WORE WHAT?.....2013 Vanity Fair Oscar Party

Oscar Party Couture:

Jennifer Lawrence in Calvin Klein: Loved the sequined column she changed into for the Vanity Fair Oscar Party. It makes sense that she would go for a completely different silhouette if she wanted to do an outfit change. The gown fits her well and is right on-trend when it comes to being an all-over sequin gown.

Fan Bingbing in Oscar de la Renta Spring 2013: Fan Bingbing wore a fuchsia Marchesa gown to the Academy Awards and for the Vanity Fair Party (above) this Oscar de la Renta mitered striped silk satin strapless ball gown with  a high waist/full gathered skirt silhouette. She is such the fashion-plate and well, looks like a DOLL in this. Only Fan Bingbing can pull off this kind of gown with all those stripes.

Ginnifer Goodwin in Monique Lhuillier: I like the neon coloring of the oversized jeweled sequins on this cocktail dress--especially against the black backdrop. It is such a "bling-bling" of a dress but I do love the juxtaposition of the athletic-like racer-back front neckline shape.

Zooey Deschanel in Valentino Resort 2013: What can I say? It's SOOO Zooey Deschanel. Perfect for her. It's very 1960's Valentino Alta Moda in its styling and sensibility--the nude tulle with colored flower applique gives her a delicate lady-like look that works for her--as well as a "mature" Roman Heiress vacationing on the Italian Riviera.

Natalie Portman in Dior: Classic. Chic. Greco-Roman Goddess. Great decision to bring some color in the stunning earrings.

Hillary Swank in Valentino Haute Couture Spring 2013: This gown was very similar to what  Best Supporting Actress Nominee Sally Field wore at the Oscars. The vibrant "Valentino Red" color is great and the sheer/lace fabrication softens Hillary. It's still hard for me to believe that these Design Houses loan out $50,000 dresses just to attend a party!!

Marisa Tomei: You can't go wrong with a delicately beaded jumpsuit. This is elegant, sporty and very LUXE. Good job Marisa!

Olivia Munn in Atelier Versace Fall 2012: And again...a question? How does Olivia Munn get COUTURE???!!! I just thought that was for the Nicole Kidman's and Jennifer Lawrence's.  On another note: Good for her! The Red Carpet "game" and Who Wears What...has really changed kids. This hand-beaded $75,000+ costing Atelier Versace fits her perfectly and softens her dark features.

And now some "questionable choices":

Emmy Rossum in Catherine Deane: I am sure that many people out there might think this may be a little "Kooky", but...I kind of like this. She looks like a former Russian Ballerina who defected years ago from the Bolshoi...attending a Ball in Paris...in 1925. I have to say: I really like it!

Arianna Huffington in Valentino Resort Spring 2013 Custom: Oh My Greek "sister". I get that black is slimming and the fact that the House of Valentino added lace elbow-length sleeves (very age-appropriate) to the original gown. But...I just wish she would have chosen to wear a column-shape gown as opposed to the gathered shape.

Zoe Saldana in Givenchy Resort: I just think this looks like a nightgown. Nothing else to say. On a good note (I think), the color matches her hair perfectly!

Miranda Kerr in Valentino Haute Couture Fall 2012: Speaking of a nightgown...On the runway: Fabulous! It's a beautiful gown. And COUTURE, need I add. On Miranda: awkward. I think the lining should have been a different color then NUDE. Maybe lilac.

Faye Dunaway in Tom Ford: Miss Faye Dunaway. We LOVE her. Worship her. A Diva. But...What are those gloves??? They look like the kind one washes dishes with. Someone ill-advised her for sure. The dress  is a cocktail--and black-colored--version of what the beautiful...

Gwyneth Paltrow wore at last year's 2012 Oscars...It's a great dress for Faye Dunaway but, she should have worn stacked HEELS with it (or at least a kitten heel), and have been careful of not having her bra show. Just sayin'
