WHO WORE WHAT?.....86th Annual Academy Awards: 2014 Vanity Fair Oscar Party, the Fashion Highlights!

Monday, March 3, 2014

Donatella Versace and Lady Gaga in custom Atelier Versace: La Donatella and her muse Lady Gaga both wore custom Atelier Versace gowns--Donatella in black digitally cut and hand-attached sequins and mesh, while Lady Gaga went the color-opposite, in a white sequined gown with silver jeweled accents. Both gowns are obviously inspired from the two latest Atelier Versace collections of Spring 2014 and Fall 2013 but were not in the actual respective runway shows. These could have been extras that didn't make "the final runway cut", or custom for the two divas.

As it is always the case with Oscars night, the fashion show isn't always at the Academy Awards red carpet but also at the A-List viewing and post-Oscars parties, especially the much-coveted Vanity Fair Oscar Party. Let's take a look at some of the fashion highlights from the stars at the 2014 Vanity Fair Oscars Party. Lots of attendees did outfit changes from what they had worn for the actual Academy Awards, naturally. An A-list star loves a good Couture Outfit Change....

Jennifer Lawrence in Tom Ford Fall 2014: Surprise, surprise, Jennifer Lawrence DID NOT wear Dior. I think I just fainted and had a mini fashion/red carpet heart attack! For the post-Oscars Vanity Fair party, Jennifer changed from her strapless terracotta red custom Dior Couture to a mirrored sequined mini dress from the Tom Ford Fall 2014 collection featuring a nude illusion base and long sleeves. Love the ankle-strapped heels. The look is chic, simple yet glam. She was also on trend with the whole "metallics"/sequin looks that we saw all night long.

Kate Hudson in Zuhair Murad Haute Couture Spring 2014: Hudson was one of those stars who did an outfit change from what they wore at the actual Academy Awards show. I loved her white custom Atelier Versace silk jersey sequined gown that she featured on the Oscars red carpet HERE, and for the Vanity Fair party, she changed into this beautifully ethereal nude with black sequin applique gown from Lebanese designer Zuhair Murad and his Haute Couture Spring 2014 collection. The gown is splendid, extremely delicate and perfectly made. Also notice that for Kate, they added another layer (or layers) of lining so it wouldn't be so see-through. From runway to "reality" as they say. Kate continued being one of the best dressed of the night!

 Kate Beckinsale in Elie Saab

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Cushnie et Ochs Pre-Fall 2014: English Victoria's Secret Supermodel --and gorgeous girlfriend of Jason Statham--wore a lavender bias-cut silk gown with organza front and side panels and gathered bust detail. She looked beautiful, statuesque and was on-trend with some of the paler/muted color stories that were present at last night's 2014 Academy Awards red carpet.

Anna Kendrick in Atelier Versace Spring 2014: I wouldn't have thought that actress Anna Kendrick was a "Versace Girl" but here she is at the 2014 Vanity Fair Oscars Party working a very form-fitting black sequin and nude silk keyhole front gown from Atelier Versace's Spring 2014 collection. I think she looks quite good. I also love her side-swept hair and simple accessorizing--a ring and a clutch. That's it.

Anne Hathaway in Custom Viktor & Rolf: Hathaway changed from her custom Gucci Premiere black with silver jeweled column gown that she wore at the 2014 Oscars to this black and white column gown from Dutch design duo Viktor & Rolf. The strapless custom-made gown featured a great Trompe-l'œil effect at the torso, inspired by a look seen a couple of days ago at their Paris RTW Fall 2014 Fashion Week runway show (above photo, right).

Jenna Dewan-Tatum: 5' 2" very petite actress/dancer and Mrs. Channing Tatum, Jenna Dewan-Tatum wore a very on-trend silver sequined gown with a nude front neckline inset panel at last night's 2014 Vanity Fair Academy Awards Viewing Party. She looked long and very lean--and very much like a Star--or a newly-crowned Miss USA...and I love that!

Diane Kruger in Valentino Couture Spring 2014: I was waiting to see if anyone was going to wear any of the gorgeous designs from the Valentino Spring/Summer 2014 Haute Couture collection, and thank goodness someone did. Actress Diane Kruger wore a midnight blue lace dress with cape-sleeves. It was delicately stunning, lingerie-inspired and oh-so-Couture-chic.

Miranda Kerr: Australian supermodel--and estranged wife to Orlando Bloom--vamped it up at last night's 2014 Vanity Fair Academy Awards Viewing Party in a sequined halter gown featuring a very plunging neckline, two 1" wide back straps and a very plunging back. She looked very "Hollywood Glamour Goddess" and was right on-trend with the all-over sequin/metallic gown.

Annual Academy Awards: Jennifer Lawrence in Custom Christian Dior

Sunday, March 2, 2014

Jennifer Lawrence in Custom Christian Dior

It is no surprise that Academy Award-nominate actress Jennifer Lawrence was going to wear Dior since she is the spokesperson of this grand French fashion house. The gown she wore was a Custom Christian Dior designed by Raf Simons strapless column dress with a slightly-flared silhouette from the knees down. It also features the very Dior-esque side peplum--an homage to "Le Bar" shape.

Her short hairstyle was "lifted up", making the look very elegant and chic I also liked the necklace and how she wears it "backwards" , having the longer part trail down her back.

Ooopsie: Oh and yes, there is the trip! In typical fashion, it wouldn't be a normal award show for Jennifer Lawrence unless she trips and (almost) falls. And she did just that as she first stepped on to the Oscars red carpet. Thank E! for capturing that moment. This might be a good omen for Lawrence. We shall soon find out.

WHO WORE WHAT?.....86th Annual Academy Awards: Amy Adamss in Gucci Premiere

 Amy Adams in Gucci Premiere

The Academy Award-nominated "American Hustle" actress Amy Adams stepped onto the 2014 Academy Awards red carpet in a deep blue strapless gown from Gucci Premiere--the Couture arm of the Italian fashion house. The gown featured a clean column silhouette with below-the-knee flare and train. the bust line was accented with a self-fabric "collar". The fit on the dress was FLAWLESS!

Amy's hair was swept up and stunning, as well as her clean-yet-elegant makeup. And she accented the look with unique Tiffany & Co. Earrings. She looked very Hollywood Starlet.

WHO WORE WHAT?.....U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama in Carolina Herrera Custom Ball Gown at State Dinner

Tuesday, February 11, 2014

President Francois Hollande of France with U.S. First Lady
Michelle Obama and President Barack Obama, as he arrives at the North
Portico for a State Dinner at the White House in Washington, D.C.

Tonight was the State Dinner to honor French President Francois Hollande. The big news is the fact that he would come sans his partner of course--after the news of his "affair" (how French!). Well, that's old news, it's all about what the U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama wore. The first lady chose a dramatic Carolina Herrera ball gown with a
voluminous skirt and lace applique top. Of note: the blue and black gown is the
first dress with sleeves Obama has worn to a state dinner.

Ball Gown First Lady: U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama with U.S. President
Barack Obama--Statae Dinner at the White House in Washington, D.C. for
France's President Francois Hollande

The dress includes a black hand-sewn beaded embroidery applique
scallop-edged top over a liberty blue silk faille corset, according to a
statement from the Carolina Herrera P.R. people. A wide black velvet belt breaks up the top
from the silk faille inverted pleat skirt. There was some speculation that Mrs. Obama would chose an American designer of French descent (as a style nod to the French President). However, this did not happen--Carolina Herrera is a Venezuelan-born American fashion designer popular with the red carpet A-List as well as Ladies-Who-Lunch Upper East Side Manhattan Doyennes.

Gown First Lady Michelle Obama is more known for an off-the-shoulder more fitted/column style gown so this is a bit of a departure for her. I think she looks very elegant, dramatic and very on-trend (ball gowns are BACK!).

WHO WORE WHAT?.....2014 Grammy Awards: Bonnie McKee in Gustavo Cadile Fall 2013

Sunday, January 26, 2014

Bonnie McKee in Gustavo Cadile Fall 2013: Bonnie McKee looked stunning in this blue strapless mermaid shaped gown from designer Gustavo Cadile. Cadile is originally from Argentina and studied in Miami. The gown fit her perfectly. I think the color was also great against her red/pink hair color...

Although I do feel that she could have used some more jewlery. A Nice "rocker chic" earring or bracelet would have really made this fantastic.

What do you guys think? Good Gown, Good Hair, more jewels? I think yes.

WHO WORE WHAT?.....2014 Grammy Awards: Rita Ora in Lanvin Spring 2014

Rita Ora in Lanvin Spring 2014 Designed by Alber Elbaz: Rita Ora went the shorter cocktail dress route and wore a gold lame knee-length dress from Lanvin Spring 2014 from its Creative Director Alber Elbaz. The dress was a simple sheath shape with long sleeves and high neckline. Notice that the runway sample covers the knee in terms of length and yet on Rita, it was shortened.

She accessorized the simple dress with lots of elaborate rings and a fun and very colorful manicure.

WHO WORE WHAT?.....2014 Grammy Awards: Ciara in Custom Emilio Pucci

Ciara in Custom Emilio Pucci by Designer Peter Dundas: The pregnant Ciara wore a custom-made gold sequined jacquard gown that featured a plunging neckline, long sleeves and a dramatic train. I loved the gold and metallic elements of this gown on Ciara, especially against her skin. The gown fits her beautifully--as it should since it was made just for her. Good job Ciara!

Ciara's gown reminded me a little of this dress from the Emilio Pucci Fall 2013 Collection above.

WHO WORE WHAT?.....2014 Grammy Awards: Zendaya in Emanuel Ungaro Spring 2014

Zendaya in Emanuel Ungaro Spring 2014 by Designer Fausto Puglisi: Zendaya look gorgeous and very chic in a gown from Emanuel Ungaro Spring 2014 collection designed by Fausto Puglisi. The gown features a black see-thru shirt with patch pockets and a full baby blue and black polka dot skirt with black center front placket and skirt hem band.  The 5'10' tall Zendaya--who will be a judge on an upcoming episode of "Under the Gunn"--the Lifetime show I am a mentor on--looks even better than the model on the right...

Her hair and makeup, by the way: FLAWLESS.

WHO WORE WHAT?.....2014 Grammy Awards: Madonna in Ralph Lauren Spring 2014

Madonna in Ralph Lauren Spring 2014, with son David Banda Mwale Ciccone Ritchie, also in Ralph Lauren

Madonna in Ralph Lauren Spring 2014:  Madonna walked the 2014 Grammy Awards red carpet with her son David--in a black double-breasted suit from Ralph Lauren Spring 2014. The ensemble featured a white dress shirt, black tie, elongated jacket with satin notched collar lapels and slightly flared-leg pants. She accessorized it all with a wide-brimmed hat, cane and a grill. Oh and yes, her very dapper son David.

So...what do you guys think? Is it a Yeay or Nay, on Madonna's 2014 Grammy Awards red carpet look?

WHO WORE WHAT?.....2014 Grammy Awards: Sara Bareilles in Blumarine Spring 2014

Sara Bareilles in Blumarine Spring 2014: Singer Sara Bareilles wore a creme/off-white strapless hi-lo gown from Blumarine Spring 2014 collection.
The gown features a fitted bustier top and full hi-lo hem attached
skirt. The fabric is accented with hundreds of appliqued petals, giving
the dress dimension and movement.

Sara Bareilles--2014 Grammy Awards

Sara's hair is a bit messy but I do love the multi-braiding that is happening. She says that she was inspired by "The Hunger Games" in terms of her hairstyle.

WHO WORE WHAT?.....2014 Grammy Awards: Taylor Swift in Gucci Premiere

Taylor Swift in Gucci Premiere: Taylor Swift looked stunning in a custom-made Gucci Premiere silver Swarovski-crystal encrusted "chain-mail" like column gown.

The gown featured a crew neckline, drop-shoulder short sleeves and a waist-cinching silver jeweled waistband. Gucci Premiere, by the way, is the "Haute Couture"/made-to-measure arm of the Italian House of Gucci.

One of the Best Dressed at the 2014 Grammy Awards so far, for sure!

What do you guys think?

WHO WORE WHAT?.....2014 Grammy Awards: Katy Perry in Valentino Couture Spring/Summer 2014

Katy Perry in Valentino Couture Spring/Summer 2014: Katy is wearing a made-to-measure gown from Valentino Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2014 collection. This collection--and gown--was JUST shown in Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week FOUR DAYS AGO!!! This, in fact, was the first gown in the collection, which was inspired by famous operas.

Musical Couture: This particular gown was a nod to La Traviata; Giuseppe Verdi's score was embroidered in black on the long, full skirt of a parchment-colored tulle dress...

Katy Perry in Valentino Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2014

 Valentino Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2014

I LOVE this gown and I think Katy looks quite "Princess-like" in it. It's very appropriate she would wear a music-inspired gown...for the Grammys.

Do we like Katy in Valentino Haute Couture?
