Sketch Fab: Nick Verreos--"Designing Hollywood: Sketches from the Christian Esquevin Collection" Exhibition FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising Museum

Last week, I had the pleasure of visiting the new "Designing Hollywood: Sketches from the Christian Esquevin Collection" Exhibition at the FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising Museum. The exhibition features over 100 original sketches and wardrobe pieces from top costume designers such as Gilbert Adrian, Edith Head and William Travilla.

Esquevin, who is Director of Library Services at the Coronado Public Library and has been collecting original Hollywood costume sketches for over 25 years. He inherited some  costume sketches from his great aunt who worked in wardrobe at the RKO as well as other studios.

I LOVE this new exhibition for many reasons: I am a big fan of Hollywood, costumes and more importantly, fashion sketches. I still hand-sketch EVERY design I come up with and therefore I love and respect vintage fashion illustrations and sketches and particularly, ones referring to Hollywood...

Crystal Award: HBO's "Behind The Candelabra", Winner of Outstanding Costume Design for a Movie, Miniseries, Special

Last night were the 2013 Creative Arts Emmy Awards. Traditionally, these Creative Arts Emmy Awards are held the weekend before the LIVE Primetime Emmy Awards. They are largely dedicated to key technical disciplines and
behind-the-scenes crafts essential to television production: art
direction, cinematography, hairstyling, makeup, music, picture editing,
sound editing and mixing, special visual effects, stunts and more.

Congrats Heidi and Tim: Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn won for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program--2013 Creative Arts Emmy Awards

Congratulations to Ellen! It was such a pleasure to have met her and to find out that she ONLY had FIVE weeks to design, and create, the costumes for "Behind The Candelabra". It is with special pleasure to have found out that she had won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Costume Design for a Movie, Miniseries, Special. Needless to say, I had a special kinship to all those sparkles--and the amazing craftsmanship of her designs!

NICK APPEARANCES.....TV Guide Network 2013 Academy Awards Live Red Carpet Show: Rehearsal Day!

Wednesday, February 27, 2013

The Day Before (The Oscars):

Rehearsal Outfits: (left to right) Nick Verreos, Tabatha Coffey, Marc Istook--TV Guide Network 2013 Academy Awards Red Carpet Show

As you may know a little awards show occurred on Sunday--yes, the Academy Awards. I was honored to be part of the TV Guide Network 2013 Academy Awards Red Carpet Live Show Hosted by Chris Harrison once again this year as the Red Carpet Fashion Correspondent--along with "Hair Diva" Tabatha Coffey of Bravo's Tabatha Takes Over and Marc Istook, who was our Sky-view/Balcony "Main Man". We had a BLAST and I have to say, it was one of the most exciting Academy Awards Red Carpet show EVER!

I will have a PHOTO RECAP of Sunday after this blog post here...but first, it's time for the Pre-Oscars Rehearsal Blog Photo Gallery. On Saturday, we all had to do a Run-Thru and Rehearsal of how the show would go on Sunday. And before, during, and after, I got some photos of the day:

Nick Verreos and Tabatha Coffey, Dolby Theatre, 2013 Academy Awards Red Carpet--Soon after we got our credentials and arrived to the Dolby Theatre, my TV Guide Network Expert-in-Fashion-and-Hair Crimes, Tabatha Coffey and I made a bee-line onto the red carpet to survey the "lay of the land" and well, take in the excitement of being there. We did it last year, so we felt, why break with tradition...

Fashion Sketch Oscars, Dolby Theatre, 2013 Academy Awards Red Carpet--I was extra excited because there were fabulous Fashion Illustrations from famous Hollywood Costume Designers and iconic Hollywood actresses and movies lining the red carpet, paying an "homage" to the glamour of Hollywood and how important and integral Fashion (with a Capital "F") has become to the Oscars.

Besides the great Costume Fashion Illustrations, we also spotted some celebs doing their rehearsals for Sunday's show--from my "Balcony" spot right above the red carpet, I made sure to get some pics of Kelly Rowland (LOVE HER!) who was there for ABC and their Pre-Show:

Kelly Rowland, during a Dress On-Camera Test with her Custom Donna Karan Atelier gown--I almost tweeted this pic but thought "wait, if I do, then I will give away what she'll wear and I'm sure that won't be very nice..." so no tweet from me. I saved it until today.
