Sketch Fab: Nick Verreos--"Designing Hollywood: Sketches from the Christian Esquevin Collection" Exhibition FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising Museum

Last week, I had the pleasure of visiting the new "Designing Hollywood: Sketches from the Christian Esquevin Collection" Exhibition at the FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising Museum. The exhibition features over 100 original sketches and wardrobe pieces from top costume designers such as Gilbert Adrian, Edith Head and William Travilla.

Esquevin, who is Director of Library Services at the Coronado Public Library and has been collecting original Hollywood costume sketches for over 25 years. He inherited some  costume sketches from his great aunt who worked in wardrobe at the RKO as well as other studios.

I LOVE this new exhibition for many reasons: I am a big fan of Hollywood, costumes and more importantly, fashion sketches. I still hand-sketch EVERY design I come up with and therefore I love and respect vintage fashion illustrations and sketches and particularly, ones referring to Hollywood...

Nick Verreos at the FIDM DEBT 2014 Fashion Club Party--FIDM Debut 2014 Santa Monica Barker Hangar

Last Thursday, as part of the FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising Debut 2014, I had the chance to be at the annual FIDM Debut Fashion Club Party. The Party is set up in a big tent adjacent to Santa Monica's Barker Hangar, the location of the FIDM Debut fashion show. The Fashion Club Party organizers set up a "Celebrity Corner" (how honored!), in the tent where party guests had the chance to take photos with me which would then be printed and given to them...to take home as a fun "souvenir". Here is my BLOG RECAP of the party with lots of photos--

A BIG Thank You to my partner David Paul for taking all these photos:

Peacock Blue Nick: I wore my Topman peacock blue jacket and striped bow tie for the party--as well as my purple printed Etro silk pocket scarf. I thought the colors mixed well with the purple draped backdrop--FIDM Debut 2014 Fashion Club Party, The Barker Hangar Santa Monica CA

Nick Verreos--arriving at Fashion Week El Paseo 2013 Palm Desert California, to set up his NIKOLAKI Collection for the "A Salute to Three Decades of FIDM Debut Graduates" Fashion Show

Last Monday--a week ago, precisely, I went to the gorgeous city of Palm Desert to show my latest NIKOLAKI Collection at Fashion Week El Paseo 2013...

NIKOLAKI by Nick Verreos/David Paul--The Backdrop at Fashion Week El Paseo 2013 Palm Desert California

I was invited by Palm Springs Life Magazine produced Fashion Week El Paseo and sponsored by my Alma Mater (and College I am a Spokesperson for) the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising/FIDM to be one of the FIDM Debut Designer Graduates to take part in the "A Salute to Three Decades of FIDM Debut Graduates Fashion Show" and emcee the show as well as make a special appearance.

Even though I was making the "Nikolaki Bow" at Fashion Week El Paseo 2013, my NIKOLAKI design partner David Paul, naturally, came with me (I cannot do ANYTHING without him). Of course, he wanted to make sure our gowns/collection were going to fit just right, be steamed perfectly, and all the accessories he chose, would be properly styled with the right model. Not only is he the co-designer of NIKOLAKI, he's also the stylist, and well, brains behind the madness (of me!).

Welcome to Sunnylands Chic--Fashion Week El Paseo 2013 Palm Desert

The following day, before leaving Palm Desert, I went back to the Fashion Week El Paseo 2013 tent to check out the runway stage installation of the "Sunnylands Chic" gowns....

I created a NIKOLAKI gown inspired by Leonore Annenberg and the Sunnylands Estate (Click HERE for all the fabulousness of the unveiling). The creations--mine as well as other fashion designers--were being shown in an installation on the Fashion Week El Paseo 2013 runway stage in the tent the following day, and naturally, I had to go:
