Nicole Kidman and Tim Roth--67th Annual Cannes Film Festival Opening Ceremony--Premiere of "Grace of Monaco"

Tonight was the Opening Ceremony to the 67th Annual Cannes Film Festival in the South of France. As it's been tradition in the recent years, this red carpet rivals the Academy Awards. This year was no different. And as it's always been the case: it's always more "Fashion Fun" in Cannes; actors take more of a "fashion risk" when they are in Europe. And I LOVE that.

Black Tie and Gowns: View of the 67th Annual Cannes Film Festival Red Carpet

This year's Opening Night film was the very controversial "Grace of Monaco", loosely based on American actress Grace Kelly and her marriage to Prince Rainier of Monaco. Actress Nicole Kidman plays Grace Kelly and Tim Roth plays the Monaco prince. The film has not gotten the stamp of approval from the Monaco Royal family (Prince Albert of Monaco is not happy!) but that has not hampered the excitement--even by the Monegasque residents--to want to go see the film. And naturally, it's gotten a huge buzz at Cannes. Oh, and PS: I cannot wait to see it, whenever it hits the States, thank you very much.

Palm Fab: Model Karlie Kloss on the 67th Annual Cannes Film Festival Red Carpet

Now, let's get to the Hits--and One Mess--of the Opening Night Ceremony of the 67th Annual Cannes Film Festival...

Nicole Kidman in Armani Prive Haute Couture Spring 2014--Nicole Kidman wore an violet blue silk organza lace applique and sequined gown from Armani Prive Spring 2014. Armani Prive is the Haute Couture "arm" of Giorgio Armani and just to remind you, this gown (if ordered and purchased) could set you back about $100,000. It's custom and all hand-made (Nicole got it for free, kids, trust). Speaking of custom, as you can see from the runway photo, the original sample had a straight strapless neckline while the one made for Kidman, was changed into a sweetheart neckline.

Jane Fonda in Elie Saab Haute Couture Fall 2013--Four words: Go On Jane Fonda. Fitness and Movie Icon Jane Fonda did not disappoint tonight wearing this figure hugging wine red colored silk chiffon and hand-sequined gown from Elie Saab Haute Couture Fall 2013. Just to remind you, Fonda is 76 years old. I want to look THAT FAB at 76. Just saying. Oh and I would not be surprised if Miss Jane fit into the Runway Sample; it sure looks like it. It's another one of those $100,000+ costing gowns so it's better that the Elie Saab Haute Couture Atelier didn't have to create another one.

Carole Bouquet in Chanel Haute Couture Spring 2014--French actress and model icon--and Jury Member of the 67th Cannes Film Festival--Carole Bouquet, wore an ivory sequined  halter-style gown from Chanel Haute Couture Spring 2014. Bouquet looked marvelous and very elegant. I loved the pop of color with her red clutch. Also, notice that the original runway sample was loose from the underbust...but for Bouquet, it was created into a fitted waist-cinching silhouette.

Paz Vega in Elie Saab Haute Couture Spring 2014: Actress Paz Vega wore a creme sequined and silk chiffon tea-length cocktail dress from  Elie Saab Haute Couture Spring 2014. On the runway, it was shown with a matching loose sequined cardigan. I think she wisely chose (or her stylist) to not wear it. The dress is elegant, very chic. It's also exquisitely made (Hello! It's Haute Couture!).

Laeticia Casta in Christian Dior Haute Couture Spring 2014:  Another Haute Couture Cannes Film Festival-wearer--French actress/model/icon Laeticia Casta. Casta wore a strapless ivory gown form Christian Dior Haute Couture Spring 2014. The gown is designed by Raf Simmons and yes, it's another one of those + $100,000+ costing ones (if you were to actually to order and buy it)...

Runway: The Dior Haute Couture gown features petal-like sequined cut-outs that move marvelously as the wearer moves with the dress. There's also an entire boned bustier inside holding it all up. And yes, all made by hand.

Zhang Ziyi in Stephane Rolland Haute Couture Spring 2014: Chinese actress, model and Fashionista Zhang Ziyi looked stunning at tonight 67th Annual Cannes Film Festival Opening Ceremony Red Carpet wearing a Stephane Rolland Haute Couture Spring 2014 gown. The gown features black patent leather pieces hand-sewn into nude illusion with ivory silk gazar and organza skirt with asymmetrical side ruffles....

Fabulous: Zhang Ziyi in Stephane Rolland Haute Couture Spring 2014

Zoe Saldana in Victoria Beckham Fall 2014: Actress Zoe Saldana wore a Grecian-inspired gown from Victoria Beckham Fall 2014 collection. The gown featured a tank neckline, fan-pleated long skirt, copper trimmed belt and bouillonne detail. This was quite a simple look for Zoe and especially for the Cannes Film Festival. Not sure if I liked...What do you guys think?

Karlie Kloss in Valention RTW Spring 2014: Model Karlie Kloss wore a lace purple-and-teal gown with batwing/cape detail from Valentino Ready-to-Wear Spring 2014 collection. The dress was very dramatic and naturally, Miss Karlie WORKED it overtime...

Back Model Diva: Model Karlie Kloss in Valentino RTW Spring 2014, 67th Annual Cannes Film Festival Opening Ceremony

Nadja Auermann in Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda Spring 2014: 90s model Nadja Auermann--she was infamous for having the LONGEST legs in the model world at the time--wore a flower appliqued strapless cocktail dress from Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda. I thought she looked GORGEOUS; very Grace Kelly.

The Cannes Mess:

Elena Lenina--Russian TV Personality Elena Lenina gets the award for "Kookiest Outfit" on the Opening Ceremonies Day of the 67th Annual Cannes Film Festival. Tonight she wore a red organza ball gown with pleated bustier, petal detail drop-shoulders and cascading ruffled dress. Oh, and yes, then she finished it off with a crystal crown. #WhatTheHaillll? She gets my "Nick Tackylicious" Award. In case this was a surprise to anyone who hasn't been following Miss Lenina and the Cannes Film Festival red carpet...

Here is a Gallery of what she's wore to the previous Cannes Film Festivals:

Hair Krazee: Alina Lenina at Cannes

Several questions here:

Who is she? Really?

How does she get such an A-List Invitation?

What Russian BILLIONAIRE is she connected to that helps her gets these invitations?

And does that Russian billionaire own half of Cannes?

And How could any fashion designer want this in their "Press Page"? With that KRAZEE HAIR!!!???

Well, that's it for the first night of Cannes 2014.

WHO WORE WHAT?.....2013 Cannes Film Festival Red Carpet "Cleopatra" Premiere: The Good, Regal, and the "Oh Dear!"

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan: Regal in teal blue Gucci Premiere--"Cleopatra" Premiere 2013 Cannes Film Festival

On Tuesday night , 20th Century Fox World premiered the 2K digitally restored 1963 film "Cleopatra" (infamous for the off-screen torrid romance between Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton) at the 66th Annual Cannes Film Festival.

This was the 50th Anniversary of the four-hour film, that incidentally, almost bankrupted the studio at the time. The stars--and their fabulous FASHION--were out on the red carpet so let's take a look at some of the Best and one or two "Oh Dear's!"--Let's begin with one of the Most Beautiful of the Night:

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Gucci Premiere: The stunning former "Miss World" looked regal on Tuesday night in teal blue silk charmeuse gown from Gucci Premiere, the "Couture"/Custom end of the Italian brand. The gown featured a one shouldered draped silhouette with a strapless fitted corset underneath and a flowy fuller skirt shape with full back and train. The teal blue color was very close to what Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini showed for Gucci Spring 2013 (above photo). I also loved Aishwarya's  hair styled up high and how she finished it al off with bright bubblegum pink lips. She looked regal and like a modern-day Cleopatra.

Araya A. Hargate in Zac Posen Spring 2013: Thai-British model/actress Ararya A. Hargate walked the "Cleopatra" Red Carpet Premiere in a sumptuous jewel green strapless ball gown from Zac Posen Spring 2013. The gown was very "old school" Vintage Christian Dior-looking in its style and silhouette with lots and lots of tulle. She made a very GRAND entrance for sure! I can only think how mad someone like Li Bingbing or Fan Bingbing (who's known for their Cannes Film Festival grand entrances) must have been that she did not have a chance to wear this first!

Dita Von Teese in Elie Saab Haute Couture Spring 2013: LOVED this red sequined dress on Dita Von Teese from Elie Saab Haute Couture Spring 2013. The dress had that "Retro" 50s feel to it and a very luxe appeal with all that Couture hand-beading the House of Elie Saab is known for. It was perfect for her; the shape, the style, the color...all of it.

Jessica Chastain in Versace Collection: Actress Jessica Chastain wore an ivory gown from Versace. It was Custom, and from another branch of the Italian brand they are calling "Versace Collection" (?). The dress featured a high boat-neck, v-back, long fitted sleeves and slight "Watteau" back cape. It made for a rather stark--and perfect background for the real STAR of this look:

One of Elizabth Taylor's famous necklaces: The cabochon Sapphire necklace

Milla Jovovich in Prada Custom: Oh Milla, this was just Wrong Wrong and Wrong! How could Miuccia Prada--and her very talented team of designers, pr department, seamstresses, patternmakers...all of it...let this happen. First, the positive, the bottom half is exquisite with all that jewel beading. But, the top: awful. It fits terribly, the darts are in the wrong position and it's collapsing in front of her since there are no underarm/side straps to hold it in. It's just all wrong.

Joan Smalls in Emilio Pucci: Model Joan Smalls looks FABULOUS at the "Cleopatra" Premiere in this sexy plunging neckline and split-front lace gown from Emilio Pucci and designer Peter Dundas.

Mouna Ayoub in Chanel Haute Couture Custom: One word: Perfection. This is what a multimillionaire socialite should look like. Mouna Ayoub wore a deep "Midnight Blue" fully sequined gown from Chanel Haute Couture (bought not borrowed, thank you very much!) with a high neckline, "glove"-length sleeves and patch pockets at the torso/midriff. Very Chanel. And very Chic.

Li Yuchum in Gareth Pugh Spring 2013: Chinese pop singer and actress Li Yuchum wore a very unusual red ensemble to Tuesday night's Premiere. The outfit, from British avant-garde Fashion "Bad Boy" Gareth Pugh had a long trailing cape, bell-bottom pants, and a bib-front ruffled top. Needless to say, it was A LOT. It's not so much of a fashion train wreck (see Bai Ling below for that!), but it's just a "different" look. One thing I am certainly NOT a fan of is those BLACK shoes with this: Bad styling choice. Bad.

Adriana Karembeu in Jitrois Fall/Winter 2013: Slovak fashion model and actress Adriana Karembeu looked pretty HOT in this navy blue fringed dress from the French leather house of Jitrois.

Barbara Palvin in Alexandre Vauthier Haute Couture Spring 2013: Hungarian model Barbara Palvin looked quite chic in this midnight blue skinny pant suit, satin lapeled ensemble from French Couturier (and Heidi Klum favorite) Alexandre Vauthier Haute Couture Spring 2013. Love the entire look, so modern, so "Le Smoking". The shoes are extra fabulous as well! Leave to a model to "get it".

Finally...

The "Oh huney!" Cleopatra Cannes 2013 Red Carpet award  goes to...Bai Ling. I give her points for at least being consistent with her, shall we say, rather "eccentric" manner of dressing. At least, she kept those photographers smiling with her fashion messiness.
