WHO WORE WHAT?.....2013 Cannes Film Festival Red Carpet "Cleopatra" Premiere: The Good, Regal, and the "Oh Dear!"

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan: Regal in teal blue Gucci Premiere--"Cleopatra" Premiere 2013 Cannes Film Festival

On Tuesday night , 20th Century Fox World premiered the 2K digitally restored 1963 film "Cleopatra" (infamous for the off-screen torrid romance between Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton) at the 66th Annual Cannes Film Festival.

This was the 50th Anniversary of the four-hour film, that incidentally, almost bankrupted the studio at the time. The stars--and their fabulous FASHION--were out on the red carpet so let's take a look at some of the Best and one or two "Oh Dear's!"--Let's begin with one of the Most Beautiful of the Night:

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Gucci Premiere: The stunning former "Miss World" looked regal on Tuesday night in teal blue silk charmeuse gown from Gucci Premiere, the "Couture"/Custom end of the Italian brand. The gown featured a one shouldered draped silhouette with a strapless fitted corset underneath and a flowy fuller skirt shape with full back and train. The teal blue color was very close to what Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini showed for Gucci Spring 2013 (above photo). I also loved Aishwarya's  hair styled up high and how she finished it al off with bright bubblegum pink lips. She looked regal and like a modern-day Cleopatra.

Araya A. Hargate in Zac Posen Spring 2013: Thai-British model/actress Ararya A. Hargate walked the "Cleopatra" Red Carpet Premiere in a sumptuous jewel green strapless ball gown from Zac Posen Spring 2013. The gown was very "old school" Vintage Christian Dior-looking in its style and silhouette with lots and lots of tulle. She made a very GRAND entrance for sure! I can only think how mad someone like Li Bingbing or Fan Bingbing (who's known for their Cannes Film Festival grand entrances) must have been that she did not have a chance to wear this first!

Dita Von Teese in Elie Saab Haute Couture Spring 2013: LOVED this red sequined dress on Dita Von Teese from Elie Saab Haute Couture Spring 2013. The dress had that "Retro" 50s feel to it and a very luxe appeal with all that Couture hand-beading the House of Elie Saab is known for. It was perfect for her; the shape, the style, the color...all of it.

Jessica Chastain in Versace Collection: Actress Jessica Chastain wore an ivory gown from Versace. It was Custom, and from another branch of the Italian brand they are calling "Versace Collection" (?). The dress featured a high boat-neck, v-back, long fitted sleeves and slight "Watteau" back cape. It made for a rather stark--and perfect background for the real STAR of this look:

One of Elizabth Taylor's famous necklaces: The cabochon Sapphire necklace

Milla Jovovich in Prada Custom: Oh Milla, this was just Wrong Wrong and Wrong! How could Miuccia Prada--and her very talented team of designers, pr department, seamstresses, patternmakers...all of it...let this happen. First, the positive, the bottom half is exquisite with all that jewel beading. But, the top: awful. It fits terribly, the darts are in the wrong position and it's collapsing in front of her since there are no underarm/side straps to hold it in. It's just all wrong.

Joan Smalls in Emilio Pucci: Model Joan Smalls looks FABULOUS at the "Cleopatra" Premiere in this sexy plunging neckline and split-front lace gown from Emilio Pucci and designer Peter Dundas.

Mouna Ayoub in Chanel Haute Couture Custom: One word: Perfection. This is what a multimillionaire socialite should look like. Mouna Ayoub wore a deep "Midnight Blue" fully sequined gown from Chanel Haute Couture (bought not borrowed, thank you very much!) with a high neckline, "glove"-length sleeves and patch pockets at the torso/midriff. Very Chanel. And very Chic.

Li Yuchum in Gareth Pugh Spring 2013: Chinese pop singer and actress Li Yuchum wore a very unusual red ensemble to Tuesday night's Premiere. The outfit, from British avant-garde Fashion "Bad Boy" Gareth Pugh had a long trailing cape, bell-bottom pants, and a bib-front ruffled top. Needless to say, it was A LOT. It's not so much of a fashion train wreck (see Bai Ling below for that!), but it's just a "different" look. One thing I am certainly NOT a fan of is those BLACK shoes with this: Bad styling choice. Bad.

Adriana Karembeu in Jitrois Fall/Winter 2013: Slovak fashion model and actress Adriana Karembeu looked pretty HOT in this navy blue fringed dress from the French leather house of Jitrois.

Barbara Palvin in Alexandre Vauthier Haute Couture Spring 2013: Hungarian model Barbara Palvin looked quite chic in this midnight blue skinny pant suit, satin lapeled ensemble from French Couturier (and Heidi Klum favorite) Alexandre Vauthier Haute Couture Spring 2013. Love the entire look, so modern, so "Le Smoking". The shoes are extra fabulous as well! Leave to a model to "get it".

Finally...

The "Oh huney!" Cleopatra Cannes 2013 Red Carpet award  goes to...Bai Ling. I give her points for at least being consistent with her, shall we say, rather "eccentric" manner of dressing. At least, she kept those photographers smiling with her fashion messiness.

WHO WORE WHAT?.....2013 Cannes Film Festival Red Carpet, More Fashion Fabulousness : "As I Lay Dying" and "Blood Ties" Premieres

Wednesday, May 22, 2013

Ahna O'Reilly in Monique Lhuillier Fall 2013: At the "As I Lay Dying" Premiere during the 66th Annual Cannes Film Festival at
the Palais des Festivals last night in Cannes, France, actress Ahna O'Reilly attended in a red applique hi-lo and skinny pant ensemble from Monique Lhuillier Fall 2013 collection. I thought this was a great choice for her; it goes great with her hair and skin, stands out--even on the red carpet-and I even love her gold shoes better than what what shown on the runway.

Alyson Le Borges in Armani Prive Spring 2013: At the "Blood Ties" premiere at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, Allison Williams doppelganger actress Alyson Le Borges wore Armani Prive Spring 2013. Le Borges is the granddaughter of French actor--and  Most Treasured Icon--Alain Delon (I wondered how she got to wear $100,000+ costing COUTURE!...now I know!).

What Is In That COUTURE tube: The very heavy , fortuny pleated, strapless gown featured asymmetrical folding and pleating plus an interesting jeweled "tube". Lord knows what that contained but my bet is...lots of Cointreau!

Marion Cotillard in Christian Dior Resort 2014: Dior spokesperson--and actress--Marion Cotillard wore Christian Dior RTW Resort 2014 (Hot off the runway!) attending the Premiere of "Blood Ties" at the 66th Annual Cannes Film Festival.  The strapless hi-lo dress was right on trend with its color blocking multi-colors; black, canary yellow, royal blue and ivory. I thought she looked great. The up-do hairstyle was a bit "mumsy" and dated but other than that: Très bien!

Milla Jovovich in Chanel Haute Couture Spring 2013: Actress Milla Jovovich wore Chanel Haute Couture Spring 2013 to the red carpet premiere of  "Blood Ties" at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival. This was from the same collection as the gown Vogue's Anna Wintour wore to the 2013 Met Gala. This sequined black/white/poppy red print colored gown had a drop shoulder detail, a white shoulder/neckline and slight fit-to-flare shape. I liked this...I only wished it hit the floor. It was too short, for me.

Zoe Saldana in Valentino RTW Fall 2013: At the premiere of "Blood Ties" at the 66th Annual Cannes Film Festival, actress Zoe Saldana looked very "Cinderella"-pretty in this gunmetal gray applique silk organza gown with wide white shoulder strap details from Valentino Ready-to-Wear Fall 2013 collection. The dress fit her very well (probably the runway sample, she looks like the same size), but I kind of wished it had more crinoline underneath--more "pouf"--what do you guys think? I also feel that it is not a flattering color for her.

Aishwayra Rai in Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla: The beautiful Aishwarya Rai Bachchan made her second Red Carpet appearance at a 2013 Cannes film premiere--this time for the film "Blood Ties" , wearing a fully-appliqued and sequined "coat-gown" with center front covered buttons from Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla. It's nice to see the former "Miss World" wearing Indian designers and especially "the boys"--as they are endearingly called.

I think she looks classic, elegant, Mumbai-Chic! Go Aishwarya!

WHO WORE WHAT?.....2013 Cannes Film Festival Red Carpet "Inside Llewyn Davis" Premiere

Tuesday, May 21, 2013

Miss World COUTURE: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan--66th Annual Cannes Film Festival "Inside Llewyn Davis" Premiere

"Inside Llewyn Davis" is an upcoming American drama film written and
directed by Joel and Ethan Coen. The film stars Oscar Isaac, Carey
Mulligan
, and Justin Timberlake and tells the story of a
singer-songwriter who navigates through New York City's 1960's folk-music scene. The film is competing for the Palm d'Or at this year's Cannes Film Festival and had its premiere two days ago, at Cannes, of course. Lots of stars--and a VERY WEALTHY socialite who LOVES Couture--walked the red carpet, so let's take a look:

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Elie Saab Haute Couture Spring 2013: The former Miss World and perpetual "Most Beautiful Woman in the World" Indian actress, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan made her 2013 Cannes Film Festival "debut" at the "Inside Llewyn Davis" premiere in a stunning lace-printed silk gazar A-line flared gown with intricate black hand-beaded applique. For Rai, the gown was customized by adding shoulder lace/sequin applique that wasn't in the original runway look. This gown--if ordered and bought--would probably cost $100,000+ (Mrs. Bachchan didn't pay for a thing darlings!) but because she's such a big star and this photo would go all over the world...it was worth the House of Elie Saab to make a custom gown for her, and then she would have to give back to the couturier's pr department for their "Red Carpet Archives".

Jane Fonda in Badgley Mischka: 75 year-old Jane Fonda looked FAB-u-LOUS at the premiere in this raspberry-colored off the shoulder jersey gown from Badgley Mischka. Did I mention she is 75 years old? Two things: A) At-a-Girl, and B) I want that necklace--oh and yes, to look like that at 75.

Nicole Kidman in L'Wren Scott Fall 2013: Nicole Kidman attended the premiere--with her hubby--Keith Urban--wearing a lavender, red and black leaf-printed strapless gown from the L'Wren Scott Fall 2013 collection. Love the color and print of the dress and the fact that she's actually wearing a PRINTED dress on the red carpet; lots of actresses like to stay away from prints, but I give her--and her stylist--points for going there.

Jessica Biel in Marchesa Fall 2012: Justin Timberlake's wife, actress Jessica Biel, attended her hubby's premiere in Marchesa Fall 2012 dress. The strapless dress featured a heavily appliqued layer over white feathered under-piece, with a slight hi-lo hem. She looked quite chic and very Euro in this. The necklace, clutch and shoes were perfect.

Carey Mulligan in Vionnet Fall 2013: Actress Carey Mulligan--who stars in "Inside Llewyn Davis"--attended the Cannes premiere in a black and white gown from Vionnet Fall 2013 collection from its new designer Goga Ashkenazi. I love the sharpness and geometric cut of this gown; very modern, very now. Her clean hair and makeup--and lack of accessories went perfectly with this directional column gown.

Olga Sorokina: Belarus-born model Olga Sorokina walked the Cannes red carpet of  "Inside Llewyn Davis" wearing a white fitted skinny-trouser/cropped jacket suit with over-the-top multicolored lapel accents. She finished it all off with a great hat and matching shoes. Love the pop of color in the flower detail and the "So What/Who Cares!" Euro flair of wearing a pant suit with a hat...at Cannes!

Joséphine Jobert in Christhophe Guillarme Spring 2013: French-born actress Joséphine Joubert wore this one-shoulder white "Grecian Goddess" gown with silver trim from designer Christophe Guillarme. She posed with the designer on the red carpet. I think it's a simple gown but great for Jobert's skin tone and again, right on trend with the Grecian Goddess theme.

Mouna Ayoub in Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture Fall 2012: Leave it to Mouna to GIVE IT! Mouna Ayoub--in case you don't know--is a French socialite of Christian-Lebanese descent, and after a divorce with a very wealthy Saudi--she built a fortune in real estate. She also has reportedly amassed the GREATEST amount of Haute Couture...about 10,000 pieces! God Bless Her! Speaking of Couture, she attended the "Inside Llewyn Davis" premiere wearing Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture Fall 2012. And trust me kids, she actually BOUGHT! This hand-sequined bias-cut gown plus shawl and sequined headpiece. It all probably set her back several HUNDREDS of thousands of dollars., but to her, it's was like buying an Economy Class ticket to Vegas--from LA!
