WHO WORE WHAT?.....71st Annual Golden Globe Awards: Kate Beckinsale in Zuhair Murad Haute Couture Fall 2013

Sunday, January 12, 2014

Kate Beckinsale in Zuhair Murad Haute Couture Fall 2013--One word: WOW. I remember when I saw photos of this gown from this Zuhair Murad Haute Couture Fall 2013
collection, I thought this was one of the most stunning of gowns--from
the exquisite hand-done Art Deco-style sequins to the simple mermaid
silhouette, it was perfection.

And I'm so happy it got to see the "red carpet" light of day with actress Kate Beckinsale wearing
it.  I'm just surprised, no shocked...that J.Lo or Sofia Vergara's
stylists didn't snatch it up first way back when it was shown at Paris
Haute Couture Fashion Week.

Who Wore What?....."Premios Juventud 2013" Red Carpet: The "Bueno/OK" Muchachas y Muchachos, the Mejor Vestidos (Best Dressed)

Pitbull and J Lo performing at Univision's "Premios Juventud 2013", BankUnited Center Coral Gables Florida

Thursday night were the Premios Juventud 2013, which occurred at the Bank United Center in the outskirts of Miami Florida (Coral Gables to be exact). Premios Juventud (translates into "The Young/Youth Awards") are roughly like the "Teen Choice Awards" but a bit more cool and yes, with a HECK of A LOT more Salsa, Chimichurri and all that spicy stuff! The highlights included Pitbull (looking dapper as always--very "Resort Pitbull") and Miss J Lo performing, as well as her ex--44 year-old Marc Anthony--showing up on the red carpet with his 22 year-old girlfriend Chloe Green (Oh Dear, can you say "Mid Life Crisis"!).

The awards show aired on Univision to AMAZING ratings. Just in case you didn't know, according to Deadline Hollywood, the show made the Univision Network No. 2 behind CBS in total viewers for the night and
the three-hour broadcast No. 1 in the adults 18-49 demo. In the demo it beat originals from ABC’s Motive, Wipeout and Rookie Blue, CBS’ Big Brother, NBC’s The Winner Is… and Fox’s Hell’s Kitchen.
The awards show was top rated in primetime in Los Angeles, New York,
Miami, Houston, Dallas, Phoenix, and Sacramento. Among U.S. Hispanic
viewers, it beat the combined totals for the most recent American Music
Awards, Billboard Music Awards, and Golden Globes. So, in other words, DON'T MESS with the Latinos and especially with the Premios Juventud! Soon, you'll be seeing gringos like Taylor Swift and Lord Knows Who trying to get themselves on this show (I hope not!).

"Chica Orbit" Rosario Abarca(in Nick Verreos-designed dress) and Nick Verreos--Premios Juventud 2010

But moving on...I have had the pleasure of attending several "Premios Juventud" in the past when I was the "Orbit Gum"/Chica Orbit Fashion Spokesperson and created and designed several looks for the "Chica Orbit" since Wrigley's and Orbit Gum was a sponsor. Now, speaking of looks, it's time to discuss the "Premios Juventud 2013" red carpet ...Estan Listos? (Are you ready?) Let's begin with the "Bueno" and I'll do a "Ayyy Mija!" and "Ayyy Mijo!"  posting afterward of course!

The Bueno/OK...

Jennifer Lopez: During her "Premios Juventud 2013" performance to a medley of her hits "On The Floor", "Dance Again" and "Don’t Stop the Party" performance, she wore this hand-applied sequin applique black-and-nude jumpsuit from Zuhair Murad Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2013/2014--This couture catsuit probably would cost about $40,000+ (if one would be wealthy enough to order it)--Miss J Lo got it made to her size at probably no fee darlings.

Zuhair Queen: J Lo also wore this creme and gold sequin mini dress from Zuhair Murad Spring 2013 to get her "Icono Mundial" (World Icon Award) and "Actriz Que se Roba la Pantalla" (Actress Who Steals the Screen award) at last night's "Premios Juventud 2013".

The Good Minis:

Alejandra Espinoza: The first "Nuestra Belleza" beauty queen winner (back in 2007) (and Olivia Culpo "Miss Universe 2012" doppelganger) wore a bubblegum pink-colored taffeta MICRO-mini dress. Her body looked SLAMMIN' and I liked the color. I thought the dress was waaaay too short but yes, she looked muy caliente--in a good way. Her nude tacky platforms are a throw-back to her old pageant days FOR SURE!

Antonietta "Tony" Collins: Pageant-posin' Antonietta--who is an anchor with Univision Deportes (Univision Sports) broadcaster/anchor--looks very pretty in this blue-and-silver sequined mini dress. I like the dress and its backless detail. It's not too Hoochie but still packs a nice "Premios Juventud"-red carpet punch. And PS: the Pageant Pose IS SLAYING ME!

Jessica Sanchez: 11th Season "American Idol" runner-up Jessica Sanchez was invited to Univision's "Premios Juventud". Jessica is half Mexican-Amercian (her father) and half Filipino (her mother). I was a fan of her coral colored skin-tight dress. It was "Herve Leger"-Lite. Great color, good nude heels and perfect accessories.

Maite Perroni: Mexican singer and telenovela actress Maite looked very cute in this gold sequined top and orange/coral colored draped mini look. The simple clean hair looks great and her gold clutch and cuff are perfect accessories. If there was any misstep are the UBER stacked platform heels. The nude color is good, they're just too Drag Queen high.

Lucero: Mexican singer, actress SUPERSTAR Lucero attended "Premios Juventud 2013" in this ivory applique dress with a key-hole detail and slight hi-lo hem. I thought it was an original dress, it really highlighted her statuesque figure. It wasn't too mini but still showed off those great legs of hers. And PS: LOVED the multicolored heels; very on trend!

Thalia: Blonder-than-Ever Latina Superstar Thalia, wore a sari-styled mini white dress to last night's "Premios Juventud 2013". It was fine with me. It just seemed so "there"; I just wish her stylist would reach out to all the top brands, especially Gucci, McQueen , Dior, etc. and see if they would lend her something more "High Fashion". Or at least, have her stylist call me, I'll lend her a FAB sexy COUTURE dress from my high-end NIKOLAKI line.

The Good Flared Girls:

Satcha Pretto: Honduran journalist and co-anchor of Univision's "Despierta America" looked FLAWLESS at Thursday night's "Premios Juventud 2013" red carpet. One of the BEST dressed! Love this flared ivory silk dress with organza insets. Her simple yet elegant side swept hair was perfect and so were her minimal nude-colored accessories.

Mini Flared: TV and Radio Personality Argelia Atilano (left) and former Miss Universe Zuleyka Rivera (right) both wore short flared mini dresses. Argelia was right ON TREND with her neon "highlighter yellow" dress with metallic skinny belt. Former "Miss Universe" Zuleyka, on the other hand, wore a TOO-SHORT printed flared style. If I had to choose a winner, it would be Argelia. Zuleyka's is MUY MUY short.

Los Hombres Good:

Cristian de la Fuente (with daughter Laura) and Casper Smart: Chilean-American and "Dancing With The Stars Season 6" star, de la Fuente looked elegant in his navy blue jacket, lilac dress shirt and flat-front slacks look. His daughter Laura looked very cute in her pink dress and gold fashion high-tops. Jennifer Lopez' main squeeze Casper looked fine in his green suit and dark navy dress shirt. He gets "Atta-Boy" points for looking sharp.

Jason Canela: Exotically handsome telenovela Cuban-American actor Jason Canelas looked as if he was on an Italian Riviera Holiday with his white shirt, blue-grey jacket and pink/coral jeans look; I loved this outfit on him, Jason looked young, cool and Euro Sport dressed-up.

Sebastian Rulli: Mexican-Argentine actor Sebastian Rulli (right) also looked very "Italian Riviera Holiday" at "Premios Juventud 2013" in his white dress shirt, white slacks and navy blue jacket outfit. I thought it was very elegant. I just don't know about his "plastic-looking hair" look.

Maxi Iglesias: Spanish actor/model Maxi looked so cute in his light orange shorts and baby blue jacket look at "Premios Juventud 2013". Si, it was MUY casual, but I kinda liked it: I do think that this would be a perfect outfit for a special pool party in the Hamptons, but for the "Premios Juventud" red carpet, he might have wanted to be a bit more dressed up.

Marc Anthony and his girlfriend Chloe Green: Marc Anthony looks good--elegant, sleek (maybe button one more button Marc--It's a bit plunging!) but...because of her, they belong in my next post...the "Ayyy Mija!" and "Ayyy Mijo!" (What is with those Stripper HEELS!!!???)...

***NEXT UP: My Premios Juventud 2013 "Ayyy Mija!" and "Ayyy Mijo!" Red Carpet WHO WORE WHAT? Posting! Stay tuned muchachas y muchachos...

Bridal Queen: Zuhair Murad Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2013/2014

Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week ended last week with the top Haute Couture fashion designers showing their latest collections for Fall/Winter 2013/2014. As you may know, Haute Couture means "High Sewing" or high fashion. Haute Couture is (mostly) hand-made, made-to-order custom clothing that requires multiple private fittings, for clients who are willing to pay from $40,000 for a suit to $150,000+ for an evening gown. It is the ultimate in buying and owning a custom garment that maybe one or two other women in the entire world might also own. Celebrities are more and more being offered (by the design companies' pr departments) to wear their brand's Haute Couture but it's lent to them and (usually) the celeb has to fit the sample (US size 2-4) size. It is used as a form of marketing and public relations to then actually sell more sunglasses, purses (think Chanel and Dior, for example).

Christian Dior Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2013/2014

Elie Saab Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2013/2014

Only about 1,000 women in the world are considered regular clients of Haute Couture (clients who order every season) and because of the rise in billionaires in countries like China, Russia an the Gulf States in the Arabian Peninsula--that number is getting bigger. A lot of the Haute Couture fashion designers--ones who have received the "stamp of approval" to be deemed as such from the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture Parisenne--traditionally end their runway presentations with a wedding gown, Robe de Mariée, as it is called. Let's take a look at some of the standouts from this season's Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week:

Alexis Mabille Fall/Winter 2013/2014: Mabille showed several white, off-white, silver-white gowns in his collection which could totally be ordered by a very wealthy client as a wedding gown. The one above--a bias-cut textured silk gown with oversized blouson sleeve detail is a great example.

Alexis Mabille Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2013/2014: Another Bridal Gown suggestion from Mabille is this silver-white duchesse satin gown with draped/pleated detail and batwing sleeve. It's very 1930's on-trend and perfect for that bride looking for a post-"Downton Abbey"-inspired look.

Alexis Mabille Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2013/2014: This Mabille gown is probably my favorite of the dresses from the collection that would make for a stupendous Bridal Gown. The dress is sinuous, sleek, has marvelous draping and back cascading and the built-in pearl details are very luxe.

Gustavo Lins Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2013/2014: Brazilian-born designer Gustavo Lins began his career freelancing as a pattern maker over twenty years ago, working both for women’s wear
fashion top brands such as Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, Jean-Paul
Gaultier
, Kenzo Paris, Agnès B, Louis Vuitton
and John Galliano. For his Haute Couture Collection, his bride wore peach--and white; a short dress with Obi-like detail and yes, the bridal veil. Unique and modern.

Chanel Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2013/2014: Model Erin Wasson wore the Bridal Gown for Karl Lagerfeld's Chanel Haute Couture Fall/Winter Fall/Winter 2013/2014 collection. It involved a heavy white tweed coat with organza "train" and a soft 1920's slip dress underneath.

Christian Dior Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2013/2014: Dior designer Raf Simons didn't end his show last week with a Robe de Mariee but there was one particular white silk gazar strapless gown with black "belted" accents which could be a Bride's Couture Dream. If an actual client ordered this for their wedding, they might replace the black straps with white ones, but of course, that's their prerogative--especially when they are writing the $100,000+ check.

Franck Sorbier Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2013/2014: The House of Sorbier showed their collection for Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week and there was a Wedding Gown in the mix. The dress (above) was of a heavy jacquard, featuring bell sleeves, gathered and draped detail and a "Period"-like look to it. If you're a "Helena Bonham Carter"-type of multimillionaire status, then maybe this would be your style.

Georges Hobeika Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2013/2014: Lebanese designer Hobeika offered this very beautiful--and traditional--style as his Wedding Gown. It is simply stunning, classic and so Ready for a Royal. Like TOMORROW!

Giambattista Valli Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2013/2014: Valli showed many options for a young, blushing (and very wealthy) bride--as well as her bridesmaids--with this Fall/Winter 2013/2014 Haute Couture collection. The two short dresses above would work fine for those young-and-sassy brides looking for a more youthful dress...

Giambattista Valli Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2013/2014: If a short dress isn't your "thang" as a choice for your wedding dress...then this hi-lo silk devore strapless gown with gazar under skirt could be the perfect choice

Armani Prive Fall/Winter 2013/2014: Italian designer Giorgio Armani's Haute Couture arm--Armani Prive--was based on a "Nude" theme--and there were several dresses in the collection that could work marvelously as ones for a bride. These three above are perfect examples. Just put a diamond tiara and a veil on top...and you're good-to-go.

Stephane Rolland Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2013/2014: French designer Stephane Rolland finished his Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2013/2014 runway show with Spanish Supermodel Nieves Alvarez in a white sheath of a dress with flowing and billowing sleeve-capes and black stand-up collar. This is definitely for a more "Directional Bride".

Valentino Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2013/2014: Valentino designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli did not end their Haute Couture collection with one definite Bridal Gown but there were several in the group that could easily be "inspirations" for one. These two above were my Top Bridal Valentino Haute Couture picks.

Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2013/2014: Fashion's "bad boy" Jean Paul Gaultier showed a collection last week based on tigresses, cheetah queens and "animalistic" divas. He showed a Bridal gown--which was really a jumpsuit of sorts--in silk gazar with silver sequins, silk faille and leather midriff belt. This Bride was more "Cirque du Soleil" than "Kenyan Safari".

Elie Saab Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2013/2014: Elie Saab finished his Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2013/2104 collection with THE Wedding Gown of all Wedding Gowns. The pics above tell you as such. If you are a Middle Eastern/Asian or Euro Royal bride-to-be with a six-figure gown budget...Elie Saab is your guy.
