Meet The New King and Queen: (left to right) Queen Mathilde and King Philippe of Belgium

In OTHER Royal News (besides William and Kate Baby News!)...After a 20-year reign, 79-year-old
King Albert of Belgium voluntarily abdicated the throne this past Sunday, July 21, passing
down the crown to his son Philippe and Philippe’s wife, Crown Princess Mathilde. The
first Belgian-born queen of the country, Mathilde hails from Bastogne,
from a family of nobility: her father was the late Count Patrick
d'Udekem d'Acoz
, and her mother, Countess Anna Maria Komorowska. As the
oldest of five children, Mathilde worked to establish herself early on.
She studied speech therapy at Institut Libre Marie Haps and then held
her own practice from 1995 until her marriage in 1999. Mathilde is also quite a Fashion Diva (this is why I am really interested!). She loves wearing Armani Prive--the Haute Couture arm of Giorgio Armani with suits beginning at around $40,000 if one were to order them!--as well as Natan, the Belgian fashion brand beloved by many Euro Royals.

The Royal Family: The new King and Queen of Belgium stepped out in front of their subjects for the first time as
Belgium's monarchs. Waving to the crowds of well-wishers, Philippe and
Mathilde were joined by their four children, Elisabeth, Gabriel,
Emmanuel and Eléonore, to mark the historic occasion--The children were
dressed in matching outfits: Elisabeth, who is now first in line to the
Belgian throne, and Eléonore wore similar cute red dresses and scarlet
hair accessories while their brothers, Gabriel and Emmanuel, looked equally as smart in navy blue suits

Future Queen: Princess Mathilde, Duchess of Brabant, Mathilde of Belgium

On July 21st, Belgium's King Albert II will abdicate. That means that his eldest son, Crown Prince and Heir Apparent Philippe Duke of Brabant, will become the new King of Belgium. His wife, Mathilde, Duchess of Brabant will officially be Queen Consort--in other words, wife of the King, thank you very much. Mathilde will, on July 21st, become the first ever Belgian born Queen consort of Belgium (what a new idea--a Belgium born person actually "ruling" over Belgium!). Her father-in-law--the King has been embroiled in a mess of a mistress and secret offspring and well...he may have seen the writings on the wall, as it were. It was time to big Adiue and Tot Ziens ("Good Bye" in French and Flemish) to the crown.

The Princess--who is of Belgian and noble Polish descent--is a big fashionista. This, naturally is what I am interested in here on my NICKVERREOS.COM blog. She loves to give fashion at important events, royal weddings, etc.

Most recently, she wore this peplum belted and printed dress at a July 8th visit to Laeken Castle--(left to right) Queen Paola, King Albert, Prince Philippe and Princess Mathilde of

The future Queen consort LOVES a neckline "knot":

Her favorite designers of choice include Belgian fashion brand Natan and Armani Prive. Not "Giorgio Armani" darlings but it's Haute Couture branch! Giorgio Armani is too "for the regular people" of course. Yes kids, she loves--and can afford $100,000+ costing Haute Couture--she's a Euro Royal! So let's discuss Mathilde, the next Belgian Queen consort and her FASHION sense:

The Wedding: When Mathilde married Prince Philippe II of Belgium and became the Crown Princess of Belgium, she wore a white custom wedding gown with stand-up collar coat from Belgian Fashion House Natan and its designer Edouard Vermeulen...

Mathilde of Belgium is a big fan of Natan and its designer Edouard Vermeulen and has worn many of his designs, besides her wedding. It is a sure thing that she will be wearing Natan for the July 21st abdication/coronation festivities. Here are some other times Mathilde has worn Natan:

The future Queen Consort of Belgium also loves Armani Prive:

First Latina Queen...in Europe: Crown Princess Máxima of the Netherlands

Princess Máxima of the Netherlands, wife of Willem-Alexander Prince of Orange heir-apparent to the throne of the Netherlands will become queen consort in less than a week--on April 30th. In case you haven't been keeping up with all things Euro-Royal, Queen Beatrix is going to abdicate on that date and her oldest son, Willem-Alexander--husband to Crown Princess Máxima--will become King.

Queen Mother--Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands

Future Queen: Máxima of the Netherlands

Máxima's new title as of April 30th will be HM Queen Máxima, Princess of the Netherlands, Princess of Orange-Nassau, queen consort. Born Máxima Zorreguieta Cerruti in Buenos Argentina--she will become the first Latina queen consort in Europe or so royal historians say. Now, what I am more interested in (naturally!) is her FASHION! There's much speculation as to what she will wear during the coronation day. So...let's take a look at her Fashion/Style Choices from the last few years, as well as her Top Three Designers. We know that A) She loves COLOR, a Good--and FABULOUS--hat, Couture (over $50,000 per gown PLEASE!), and she's NOT a Fashion Wallflower...

Máxima Loves a Good Hat:

Red Carpet One-Shoulder Golden Girl:

Princess Máxima loves a good one-shoulder and Grecian Goddess draped-inspired gown

 Cape Chic:

Daytime Chic: Princess Máxima looks chic and elegant--yet still very on-trend with this ivory boat-neck dress with cape "sleeves"

Ethnic Fab:

Sari Princess: In 2008, Princess Máxima launched the Amsterdam-India festival, the largest celebration of Indian art and culture in Amsterdam at the time. The Argentinian born princess opened the event in Amsterdam’s Museum Square wearing this Indian-inspired  sari-like ensemble in ocean blue and gold.

Her Fave Designers:

Natan: Natan is a Belgium designer very popular with the Euro Royals. Crown Princess Máxima attended Prinsjesdag (Budget Day) in The Hague, Netherlands wearing this Natan gown. The dress code for Prinsjesdag is one that used to be incredibly popular but we rarely see today: floor-length gowns and orders, plus hats because it’s still daytime. Máxima wore this fuchsia colored Natan gown which she actually previously wore on a state visit to Qatar in 2011. Her shoes are also by Natan and her hat is by Fabienne Delvigne.

Benito Fernandez: Princess Máxima has worn the designs of fellow Argentinian Benito Fernandez. Fernandez is known for ruffles, flounces and a bit of the "Latino" design flair.

Jan Taminiau: Princess Máxima LOVES this Dutch fashion designer and has worn his design many times, including the Luxembourg Royal Pre-Wedding dinner (top photo) and a recent visit to Brunei (above).

Valentino Gal:

Finally, there's Valentino. Princess Máxima wore Valentino Custom Haute Couture on her Wedding Day in 2001, twelve years ago. The gown--estimated at costing over $200,000 (it's Haute Couture darlings!) was GLORIOUS, elegant and featured a QUEEN-worthy train (see above photo). She has continued  to wear designs from the Italian fashion house...
