Tuxedo Couture: Stéphane Rolland Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2013/2014

Drama Bride: Spanish Supermodel Nieves Álvarez in the Finale of Stéphane Rolland Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2013/2014 runway show

The Look: French fashion designer Stéphane Rolland showed his Fall/Winter Haute Couture collection in Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week last week. The collection was mostly black and white with some navy thrown in for good measure. Rolland continued his trademark architectural/sculptural shapes throughout. There was an underlying theme of a "Tuxedo Jacket" as the trampoline to give him inspiration; inspiration for creating exaggerated shawl collars, half-jackets, grand notched collars, as well as a folded and pleated luxe "tuxedo shirt" worn by his star model and muse for this collection: 39 year-old 5' 10 1/2" tall Spanish supermodel--and "Hola!" magazine darling, Nieves Álvarez. Nieves opened and finished the show.

Rolland Muse: Nieves Álvarez also wore one of his designs at the Goya Cinema Awards 2013 (the Spanish Oscars) back in February. All this, I assure you, will guarantee Monsieur Stéphane Rolland the cover of the next Alta Costura edition of "Hola!" magazine for sure!

Nude Suits: Armani Prive Fall/Winter 2013/2014

The Look: Giorgio Armani showed his Couture collection for Armani Prive in Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week two days ago. He called it "Nude". After seeing the collection you get the Nude references; nothing to hide, transparency, nude colors, lace, sheerness. He also said that it was about "Pure elegance, what's on the inside". Colors did range from pale neutrals, nude, cremes to black. The shapes were softer, more fluid, not so architectural and structured as some of his latest outings for Armani Prive and little use of his signature "satinized"/techno silk organza, if any.

It was elegant, with a 1940's vibe and will probably make his clients very happy, especially Princess Mathilde of Belgium, Duchess of Brabant. She'll be Queen consort real soon when her husband's father abdicates. And might need to order one or two $100,000+ Armani Prive ensembles for the crowning festivities.

Royal Wedding: "La Robe de Mariée" Elie Saab Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2013/2014

Lebanese couturier Elie Saab is a favorite of the Euro Royals--most recently designing what was arguably one of the Most Beautiful Royal Wedding Dresses of last year for the Luxembourg Royal Wedding and Stéphanie, the Hereditary Grand Duchess of Luxembourg. So, it is only fitting that he title his most recent Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2013/2014 collection he showed yesterday in Paris, "Ceremonie Royale"--a Royal Ceremony, inspired by the Palais Brongniart and how gorgeous dresses would look like flowing through its columns.

The Look: Gorgeous, sumptuous, Royal-looking dresses--well and one pant ensemble. The silhouettes weren't so oppulent, quite simple actually. It's Elie Saab doing the same thing he's been doing...very stunning garments, beaded and crystal'ed like only Elie Saab's atelier can do. Speaking of the crystals and embroidery, this season these were
inspired by jewels in a crown: ruby, emerald, and sapphire. Very monochromatic looks came down the runway: blue crystals on blue silk tulle, red sequins over red silk. And for the finale, it was The Bride--with bridesmaids in tow helping her with her train--which made the "Royal Impact". Look for a princess, countess, any lovely lady with a title--and over $200,000 to fork over for a hand-made Elie Saab Haute Couture wedding gown--to be seen walking down the aisle in this sometime in the future.
