The World Revolves Around Chanel--Chanel Fall/Winter 2013/2014
The Look: Karl Lagerfeld and the House of Chanel has taken over THE WORLD. And evidence of this: The Grand Palais was transformed (as it has become de rigeur with Chanel) with a HUGE globe of the world with pin lights denoting cities and little red flags for the 300 Chanel boutiques around it. Chanel rules. We got it Karl. The clothes: lots of tweeds (naturally), dark, winter, and semi-punk. Colors included black, royal blue, washed denim, gray, pink. Silhouettes: rounded shoulders, roomy sleeves, short vs. long, flared skirts. Fur caps!

Alexander Wang's OUTSTANDING Debut for the House of Balenciaga:
Balenciaga Fall/Winter 2013/2014
The Look: Alexander Wang's debut collection for Balenciaga was a moment. A Fashion Moment. It was much anticipated by all the Fashion Cognoscenti. Last July, it was all about Raf Simons and his first Dior Couture show, and now it's Wang's time. The NY boy "done did good", according to many who were there, including the NY Times' Cathy Horyn.She said "Balenciaga is in good hands." And I agree.

Rumors in the French capital were that of "Mon Dieu! How could they let a New Yorker actually design for the famed French House...". But he conquered. The collection was sublime, ultra chic, modern. Wang went into the Balenciaga archives and payed homage to the Master's shapes, volume and proportions.It was beautiful.

VUNK: Versace and Punk--Versace Fall/Winter 2013/2014
The Look: Punk...as seen by Donatella Versace. As we know the Met Museum's Costume Institute is getting ready for their upcoming Punk Chaos to Couture Spring 2013 Gala and Exhibition so yes, kids: it's ALL about PUNK. And Donatella knows this. For Fall 2013, she sent her Glamazon girls dipped in LOTS of vinyl black, chains, diamante straps, nails and bolts chokers, shocking-to-the-eye highlighter yellow furs, bright red coats and Sexy Siouxsies. Can't wait to see those girlfriend's of Russian millionaires wearing all this in their Winter trips to Sardinia.

Prada vs. Dolce & Gabbana--Milan Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2013/2014
Last month, Milan Fashion Week for Fall/Winter 2013/2014 happened. I posted the Gucci Fall/Winter 2013/2014 show HERE back at the end of February and so here are some more Milan Highlights:
Let's begin with two contrasting collections--Prada and Dolce & Gabbana. One was "Undone Bag Lady Chic" and the other, Catholic Diva Goes Baroque! Care to take a guess who did what??
Prada Fall/Winter 2013/2014:
The Look: Feminine Bag Lady Chic has been Miuccia Prada's heroine for ages and nothing changed here. She described the look for Fall 2013 as beening "Done and Undone". It was. The clothes--as styled had a look of :"just thrown on" as she had barely spent time even fussing with her hair or makeup before walking out of her Milan pied-de-terre. In terms of silhouettes, one that stood out involved skirts with a side panel that dipped asymmetrically at the hem. Lots of luxe tweeds, furs and embellishment of sequins and crystals were present as well.

Dolce & Gabbana Fall/Winter 2013/2014:
The Look: Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana are obsessed with Icon Worship, the Catholic Church, Baroque-isms and all out embellishments. They used the golden mosaics of Sicily's Cathedral of Monreale as their starting point for this Fall 2013 collection. Every look seemed like "Fashion Priestesses" transporting themselves from a Church wall's mosaics and onto the runway. Shining golds, deep blood reds, lots of sequins, and jeweled details throughout. Lace and heavy embroideries as well. Now, this Fashion Church is one I'd like to worship!
