Last night at the Crocus City Hall in Moscow Russia, a new "Miss Universe" was crowned: Maria Gabriela Isler became the SEVENTH beauty from Venezuela to be crowned "Miss Universe"! Gabriella--or "Molly" as her closets of friends call her--was a front-runner from the minute she arrived in Moscow several weeks ago ahead of the international beauty pageant.

Ooops, Where's My Crown? Gabriel Isler "Miss Venezuela" and new "Miss Universe" tries to get a hold of her slippery/always falling crown--

The 1.78 m (5' 10") tall beauty beat out 85 other gorgeous women from all over the world for the coveted international beauty crown. Once it got down to the Top Five Finalists, there were FOUR
Latinas--"Miss Venezuela", "Miss Spain", "Miss Brazil" and "Miss
Ecuador", and one from Asia, "Miss Philippines"...

As hosts Thomas Roberts and former Spice Girls Mel B. announced the First Runner-up and Winner, there was a bit of confusion and the winner--Gabriela Isler from Venezuela, thought "Miss Spain" Patrica Rodriguez had won, until well, Olivia Culpo (last year's "Miss Universe") came over and crowned her--Miss Venezuela--as THE WINNER!

Miss Universe 2013 Contestants model in Tony Ward Couture runway show--Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia Spring/Summer 2013-2014

Tonight, in Moscow Russia, a special runway show occurred as part of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia Spring/Summer 2013-2014. Lebanese Fashion Designer Tony Ward (not the model and former Madonna "boy toy" Tony Ward in case you were wondering), showed his "Tony Ward Couture" runway show and his casting team chose 27 Miss Universe 2013 contestants--who happen to be in Russia for the "Miss Universe 2013" beauty pageant--to model in his show.

Not One Black Contestant In Sight--the 27 Miss Universe 2013 contestants chosen to model at the Tony Ward Couture runway show--Mercedes-Benz Fashion Show Russia Spring/Summer 2014

The contestants who got the "honor" to model were Australia, Poland, Romania, Singapore, Ukraine, Nicaragua, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Panama, Sweden, Turkey, Venezuela, India, Great Britain, France, Japan, Spain, Belgium, Canada, El Salvador, Austria, Lebanon, Russia, Philippines, Thailand, USA.

While I love the fact that they fused "Beauty Queen" and "Model" with this (as a Fashion Designer who LOVES Beauty Pageants, I appreciate that) and this was a great group but...I am very surprised--in fact, shocked and dismayed that NOT A SINGLE BLACK contestant was chosen. There are so many stunning ones, that could easily fit the runway "Supermodel" look (Israel, Dominican Republic, Tanzania come to mind), but not one. I, for one, was not happy about that. Well, I've said my peace, let's just get to the pics:

Giving Up The Crown: "Miss Venezuela Universe 2012" Maria Gabriela Isler

The 61st Annual Miss Venezuela pageant will be held tomorrow October 10th at the massive Poliedro de Caracas. The "Miss Venezuela" is arguably one of the most important--and most watched--national pageants because of its track record for choosing future "Miss Universes", "Miss Internationals" and so on. Fashion-watchers also love watching the show for its famed "Evening Gown Competition" showing Haute Couture-worthy gowns.

The top three of this "Miss Venezuela 2013" will go on to compete at "Miss Universe 2014", "Miss International 2014" as well as "Miss Earth 2014".

The 26 contestants for "Miss Venezuela 2013"

The 4 hour-long pageant will be televised live on Venevision tomorrow and then shown on Saturday afternoon in the US on Univision (a much shorter edited version). The outgoing "Miss Venezuela", Maria Gabriela Isler will crown the new winner. Now, her job isn't done yet, since she still has to go to Russia to compete in this year's Miss Universe 2013 in November. There are 26 contestants vying for the crown and here are the favorites, according to some "pageant followers":
